Sat down to watch with high expectations which rapidly deteriorated. It was supposed to be about a would be singer/composer who found some success then disaster hits. To begin with the film looked beautiful. The directors clearly enjoyed long lingering fly over shots of scenery. So much they repeated it over and over again. But then along comes the storyline and rapidly l realised the inane lines the actors were given to speak meant the film was about to go down hill very quickly. In short the script was appalling, but that did not matter because not one of the actors could act. I don’t know who on earth they are. It seemed the actor playing the main singer/songwriter was so liked by someone he had to be in nearly ever shot, though he seemed incapable of stringing a sentence together. When he got to sing, his songs had four lines repeated over and over again. As the story progressed we got a love interest. Fine on the eyes but she couldn’t act either. At one point she is ill, and has to talk about what has happened to her during an operation. She looked like she had just stepped out of a beauty contest not just been at deaths door.
What was not pointed out in the little blurb you get about the film was that , some of it takes place in a Bible college. God and belief is talked about without any explanation why, without sincerity and everyone looks embarrassed having to mention God. It was as if they were making a film about Christian belief but didn’t want the viewer to actually realise this.
As one scene after another got worse and worse, Shania Twain popped up welcoming her son home, then she popped up waving him off. Finally the lead female had a scene where she had to say she had dreamt that God showed her boyfriends wife to her. That was about forty minutes in at which point l switched off, never to watch anymore of the trite rubbish that made its subject matter - a very true serious one, into something that disrespected every point it hoped to make. Do not waste a minute of your life watching this nonsense. It’s based on a true story - a pity it’s writers and directors didn’t respect the lives they were trying to tell us about.
