Throwback to the past.. But it's too late

Throwback to the past.. But it's too late
Pros:- Great for that throwback feeling if you wanna feel like you're back in 2008!- Keyboard is legitimately fun to type on, very tactile and clicky- Battery life is awesome, can definitely go 2 days or more without needing a charge- Headphone jack is always welcomeCons:- The screen is just way too small for anything meaningful- 1:1 aspect ratio means some apps don't scale properly, made worse that the screen is so small- Cameras actually remind me of phones from that 2008 period- For such a small phone, still quite thick and heavy (could be a benefit if that's what you're into)Unfortunately the main deal breaker for me (and why I'm returning it) is because Android 11 on this was just too buggy for me to do anything meaningful on this - e.g. Gmail just kept force closing for no reason, even after multiple reboots, reinstallsBlast from the past, but for me it's too far gone
Thank you for your feedback

Had the phone about a week now and a real pleasure to use. Very good solid build quality, not as chunky in the hand as I thought it would be and very comfortable to use. Keyboard is great to use which is why I bought it in the first place, I wanted an old style BB and this didn't disappoint. The screen is obviously a lot smaller than normal smart phones and needs some getting used to but I'm happy to compromise to get the physical keyboard. Only one thing I have noticed is that I can't seem to get any alert sounds for eBay or the Royal Mail app for some reason but WhatsApp alert sounds work fine, I haven't tried email alerts as I always search those manualy and never push so maybe something I'm doing wrong but not sure. All in all very happy with the phone.

I was concerned about the size of the screen, but it's no worse than using a larger screened phone with half the display covered by an on screen keyboard. If you're a serious gamer then this won't be for you, the screen is just too small, but for browsing, messaging and calling it's perfectly fine. After setting the phone up a pop-up appeared to say that an update was available so the latest security update for Android 11 was installed.
The physical keyboard itself is quite easy to use. I have large hands but with a little perseverance the keyboard is fairly easy to master. There is also the option to have some keyboard functions on screen, which simplifies some tasks. Performance is good, apps and web pages load quickly and battery life appears to be quite good, no doubt this is due to not having to power a large screen.
Build quality is good, I would, however, I would recommend a TPU or book style case, as the rear of the phone is quite smooth and therefore susceptible to scratching if not protected.
Some apps don't display properly due to the screen size but there is a setting that helps with this, which makes the experience tolerable.
Sound through the earpiece and speaker is fairly good - not Dolby quality but adequate for a device of this size. There is a programmable shortcut button which is very useful and provides PTT functionality for VoiP apps such as Zello or can be used to open specific apps which are user selectable with function settings for both long and short presses.
The physical keyboard itself takes a little effort to master - anyone used to the BlackBerry Curve will be familiar with this, but the keyboard function are a little different to the BlackBerry. Once mastered, the keyboard becomes intuitive. There is an IR transmitter on board and an app that lets you set the phone up as a remote for devices such as TV, satellite box, sound system etc. I have used it with my smart TV with good results.
Good value for the price and for those who prefer a small form factor and physical keyboard, it's ideal. I like Unihertz products, I use an Atom XL for my main phone, and I bought this one specifically for business use, much better than a slab phone for my purposes.
To sum up, it's a neat, small device, well constructed and capable phone but it is in a somewhat niche market.

Camera sucks and no wireless charging, but don't worry you won't miss any of those at all. Battery lasts days, keyboard is fantastic and that's what I really wanted it for. NFC pays for stuff, the fingerprint reader is really fast at unlocking, it fints in my pocket. Some apps such as Yatse & Fibit scale weird so you end up with missing buttons or something so small its impossible to tap. Other than that its beyond great, never heard of this company before but now I really want to try that Atom one out

As a Blackberry user, I find having to check manually to see if emails have arrived very tiresome. At least a light flashing would be helpful. I really miss this after using Blackberrys.

It took ages to set up as there is so much pre-installed Google stuff that it didn't feel safe......

The keyboard is okay and the screen too but I much prefer the Blackberrys. Luckily I can still use some of those devices for basic things.

All in all, it is expensive in view of the above problems.

Update July 2023 - after struggling with this for several months - it now won't accept most apps from Play Store - I've given up and will sell it.

Device is well built. Had this been released a few years back it would give blackberry a run for their money. Apart from the positioning of the function keys and the lack of setup for other languages its a confortable enough keyboard to type on. However, it doesn't detect my WiFi network as a 5GHz one. It doesn't bother me much as I bought this phone to do a digital detox and not focus on useless stuff. Its a rather decent daily driver to do your stuff safely. But it is being advertised as a 5GHz WiFi phone...

As long as you are happy with this caveat and are willing to type again in something *tactile* you will be happy-ish with this device.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent phone for people wanting a keyboard, Blackberry replacement, or a lean android phone.

The Unihertz Titan Pocket is like a modern day Blackberry Q10 or a Blackberry Classic or maybe more a combination of the two. This phone combines the style, size and feel of my Blackberry Q10 (in a beefier but not larger package) paired with a modern Android 11 operating system. It literally gives me the revival of my Q10 with a very good keyboard and apps that just work and when I say apps that work so far that has been pretty much without compromise. You will read reviews that will warn you off from the small screen and the square display but I've not found that to be much of a compromise. For some apps, such as Netflix or Prime Video, this is not the phone that will give you the best experience (of course) but they certainly still work but there are so many other options to use those services on other better devices than a phone, including our laptops and TVs, I just don't find this much of a compromise.

For the reported downsides of a number of the other reviews here for WiFi drop out or Bluetooth disconnect I've experienced none of that. Everything works well. As others have said here, the build quality in terms of being a sturdy phone is quite nice. The phone offers some small improvement over the original Passport style Titan by getting rid of the recessed camera and screen sensors which always needed cleaning by bringing those flush to the face of the phone, the angles of the phone are somewhat nicer and although the keyboard is less roomy than it's bigger brother (so I'm a bit slower in my typing) it still manages to allow me to type quite fluidly with an absolutely wonderful keypress feedback (as good as my key2 and a bit better than my Q10). The scrolling via the keyboard is smoother than that the original Titan and the keyboard is wonderfully backlit. The ability to easily program every key to multiple apps and functions keeps your fingers off the screen and eliminates working your way through screen menus, everything is available from a key press. As for Phone call quality, that is good and the speaker for phone calls is clear and loud, battery life is great due to the small display.

Don't buy this phone if you are NOT looking for a small phone that fits easily in your pocket and can be used one handed as it offers that as a throwback feature with wonderful balance and feel in your hand, to a time before all phones became large flat oversized glass slabs. If you are looking to buy a phone for the camera forget it, this is not your phone. Cameras are functional no more.

Having used the larger Unihertz Titan for almost 3 years and never finding the square display to be problematic for apps i still was quite suspensions that this screen (3.1) would just be too small or problematic and that fear kept me from trying this phone for a long time but for me that has not been problematic at all.

Lastly I would say that the Android 11 version of software provided by Unihertz has the least
bloatware of any phone I've used with many well
throughout features like the ability to assign every app to function in landscape or portrait or even settings for force portrait or forced landscape. Also, there a nice set of software tools (apps) in their included toolbox. It's a well priced phone that gives good value but targeted for a small user audience that might appreciate some of the features described here.

5.0 out of 5 stars As a Blackberry replacement it works better than the original

Great if you want a phone for phone calls and texts, with a good camera, flashlight and keyboard.
Very robust, a bit heavy, but fits in a pocket easy enough.
You need the hard shell case as it makes it easier to hold and bounces when dropped.
Excellent battery life - I leave it on all the time and charge it once a week.
Used it as a camera on a five day trip and only recharged when returned home @30%
Battery can be replaced easily by user.
Square pictures are surprisingly good.
As a Blackberry Q5 replacement it works better than the original.
No Google account needed to set it up as a basic phone.
Never tried data or WIFI with it as that's not why I bought it.
Had the phone ten weeks - most pleased with it.
Great phone, but if you need smart features then you might want to consider other options.
