I bought this as a reading light at night. On one end it has 3 light modes, white light, blue light and warm/yellow-orange type of light. On the other end it has 3 brightness modes, very bright, bright and dim. Although to be honest, the dim light is still quite bright, but the fact that the cables are bendy means you can point them down and away from other people, and also you can hide the light with your book so from my experience, the brightness is just fine.
The cables will bend and stay in whatever position you put them in, so it can be used as a hands free torch for other stuff, like if you're trying to fix something. Overall, especially for the price I'm happy with the purchase.
