Customer Review

We have had a conventional wireless doorbell for ages, but we fancied getting one of these to improve our security and allow us to see callers and remotely abuse delivery drivers, etc :-). It was relatively easy to get a basic setup done, and we also bought a Ring chime too, which was also fairly easily setup. I was amazed how big the Ring 3 doorbell is, which was my own fault for not looking at the dimensions. We also bought a Ring solar panel to recharge the doorbell rather than keep taking the battery out and recharging it. Once the doorbell is pushed we now have our three Echo shows announcing visitors as well as the chime, so we are unlikely to be unaware of visitors, to say the least. I have not yet connected the solar panel, but will certainly report further when I do, particularly as there isn't abundant sunshine in October. I have ordered some small self-tapping screws to attach it to our UPVC door frame as sticking it on with double-sided tape seemed a bit lax. It certainly functions when held in its intended location, so far so good.
UPDATE: For some reason on day three when I visited the Ring app, it implied that I had yet to set up my devices, which I had already done. However, a couple of days later everything is magically functioning as it should again. Fixing the Ring to our UPVC door was fairly straightforward, apart from the fact that I got some cheap and nasty Chinese self-tapping screws to fix it on and the quality of their Phillips heads on the screws was screws dreadful and resulted in the Phillips heads getting chewed up (buy cheap, buy twice).
FURTHER UPDATE: The solar panel is now connected and over the course of a few days, got the doorbell camera to 97% charge, a couple of sunny days and several overcast ones. I have fiddled around in the app and we now get the chime chirruping when somebody approaches the door, before they have even pressed the bell push.
FURTHER, FURTHER UPDATE: I originaly bought some very cheap and nasty Chinese screws to attach the bell to our door frame (it's complicated). However the screws were not up to the job, to say the least! So, I bought a stick on mount, which is much better. Since November powered by the solar panel, I don't think the battery level has ever dropped below 82% and now as we approach summer it is consistently way over 90% even after a few cloudy days. I have read several reviews which mention the bell's poor WiFi range, I have not had the slightest problem with this, even though it is about 25 metres from the router, with several walls between.
