I bought a cheaper one last year, and it permanently had a bright light on. This is simple, turns on and off, and has functionality on the dvd player (something the more compact ones don’t have) and also the remote. It is small and neat, does the job.
One of the films I watched the dvd sounded noisy, but I tried another and it was just that dvd in particular, rather than the dvd player. Thanks!

This Sony replaced a cheap Electicom DVD player that kept malfunctioning. The Sony is OK at showing classic DVD films and comedies, and the remote buttons used are ‘play’ ‘pause’ and ‘eject’ will get you by. The other buttons are a complete mystery to me. The instructions are complicated and tell you everything you need to know apart from how to turn it on and off; and how to insert a DVD. You have to learn how to do that yourself. To date, it has not gone wrong and I give it a 4 star. It was modestly priced at £39. I am pleased with it so far.

Bought this for my mum's bedroom TV as she's been a bit unwell and so having obtained the entire Elvis Presley movie output for her, she needed something to watch it on.

The unit is nice and compact, and upscales SD content pretty decently; it's never going to be native-res equivalent but for watching on a bedroom tv it's absolutely fine.

Sony are a bit parsimonious, however, by not including an HDMI cable in the box, so be aware you'll need to provide/source your own to use it.
