OK, I live in a modern build town house, when we moved in 10 years ago we had BT broadband (router is middle floor front) and had a dead zone in the ground floor (rear) conservatory & garden, I bought a Netgear extender to deal with the issue.Eight years later (Sep 2018) time to upgrade the tech and I bought a TP-Link RE200 V2, the 5GHz between the extender and the router was a little unstable but we could stream, make video calls, no issues. I then changed to Sky broadband and developed a second dead zone in the top floor rear bedroom (the most important room in the house, the daughters and a teenager with bad internet!) so I purchased a second RE200 V2 (Nov 2018, which was when the last firmware update for the V2 was released), All good.Nearly two years on, the connection on the ground floor extender was getting less stable and the speeds very slow, there had been changes to the house, in particular a recent upgrade on the house intruder alarm and the control panel with the sim card which had been on the top floor front had been relocated to the ground hall between the ground floor extender and the router which I think may have had a slight effect on the network. The top floor was still functioning perfectly. I am also starting to move to smart home tech, so wanted a stable link for these products.Anyway time to upgrade the tech again, yes finally we get to the product under review, so having been happy with the TP-Link products, I purchased a RE300 (AC1200). I set it up via the app and gave it the same SSID (3 APs, 3 SSIDs) and password as the one being replaced so no devices would need to be updated to connect. We have always connected manually from our phones to each access point so we know which one we are on, to get the best connection depending where we are in the house. Although the RE300 has Mesh tech to eradicate this problem, yes of course the Sky router does not support this tech, so manual selection was the way to keep going.I set the RE300 from the app and all went well, at least for a short period when my phone lost connection and said it was "unable to obtain an IP address". I rebooted the extender and it reconnected, a short time later the same thing. I work with security systems so I am use to remoting directly into devices and although I had never tried it with one of these extenders, I got the IP address from my router and gave it a go, success a much more comprehensive menu than the app. I applied DST, so the devise had the correct time and set a static IP address on the extender and assigned it on my router.Fantastic problem solve, no more "unable to obtain IP address" but now after a period "connected without internet". As I said earlier I'm starting to install smart home devises and these only use single band 2.4GHz so I tried using the high speed setting Router 5GHz-Extender-2.4GHz-Device but found speeds on a mobile extremely slow. It was at this point I turned to the internet and found this to be a common problem but no fixes available.Anyway over the last week, I have tried the extender in different locations and different settings, the most stable I found was by disabling the "Connect to 2.4GHz Network" in the Wireless-Connect to Network settings and leaving the dual band active between the extender and devises, but as you will see from the System Log image I'm still getting the DHCP errors which are causing the issue. The ironic thing is, that having learnt so much about the settings, I revisited the old RE200 and comparing it to the top floor one noticed it had an old version of the firmware, I've updated this and it is now stable and giving fantastic speeds! It's time to admit defeat and return the RE300 but I cannot give it a bad review as when it is running I get excellent coverage and high speeds, I just have compatibility issues which hopefully a future firmware update from TP-Link will resolve, so when it's time to update the tech again, I will be looking at these.

I recently encountered a situation whereby my router was being switched off by a terror-toddler which necessitated router relocation, and due to the placement of the Virgin Media cable this could only be to a far corner of our home.

During winter this was fine as we weren't spending much time in the garden at the other end of the house, but now warmer weather has arrived things have changed and I'm finding that the WiFi is dropping out when sitting outside.

This device was purchased for just over twenty Great British Pounds and is a bargain when compared to a new AX router or mesh system.

I'm a gadget-lover and have never had trouble with such things, that has to be noted.

From removing the product from its box, it was plugged in and the status light was flashing, a five second journey to the router and a push of the WPS button, then back again to push the same button on the device and one by one the lights for 2.4 and 5ghz also lit up and remained solid.

No more than 30 seconds and two (my RT AC 3200 has one 2.4 and two 5ghz radios) extended WiFi connections appeared in the list of available networks on my phone suffixed with _EXT and simply required entry of the existing WPA2 password. It automatically extended the 2.4ghz and the first 5ghz radios.

Signal is now strong in the garden, it has a Blink Mini camera, Netatmo, Blink Studio, Chromecast Ultra connected to it and its all flawless. It uses about two watts according to my IHD.

As for any bad reviews, I would say as with any networking equipment, know what your requirements are and research because it's not one size fits all.

If your house is mahoosive you're going to need more than one or a dedicated multi point mesh system. If your house has walls like Fort Knox, the 5ghz band from this won't pass through them any easier than the 5ghz band from your router. If you want OneMesh, you also require a OneMesh router. If you run a hotel, a small consumer device isn't what you require for your guest WiFi system.

For what I need, it's perfect, it's cheap, it took 30 seconds to get up and running without any apps or setup other than plugging it in and pushing two WPS buttons. I'm on Virgin 200mb, as per the photo I get almost full speed sitting a few metres away from the device.

If you have an AC band router, averaged size house and want to extend your network slightly, this is for you. If you live in Buckingham Palace and want to extend your network to the drawing room 400 metres away, probably not.

The TP-Link AC1200 Mesh Dual Band Wi-Fi Range Extender offers a mixed bag of performance in my experience. On the positive side, it works reasonably well, extending the Wi-Fi range and providing a boost to signal strength in certain areas.

The range extender comes with some nice features. The setup process was relatively straightforward, and the device integration with the existing network was seamless.

However, I've noticed some inconsistencies in the connection reliability. My devices occasionally lose signal, and there are times when they struggle to automatically connect to the extender. This intermittent loss of connection can be frustrating at times.

Perhaps because I have a TP-Link router (an Archer VR400 v3 that supports OneMesh), I found this wifi extender so simple to set up, and it works perfectly to give me a wifi signal in my kitchen and garden where previously there was none.

To set it up, I plugged the extender into a socket near my router and let it power on, pressed the WPS button on my router, then pressed the WPS button on the extender, and about 45 seconds later the 2.4GHz and 5GHz lights went solid indicating it was connected to the router. Then I unplugged the extender and plugged it into a socket in my kitchen, and after about another 45 seconds I had eliminated the dead spot and I now have wifi!

The best part of this OneMesh system is that it has extended my existing 2.4GHz and 5GHz wifi networks, so there is no need to set up other SSIDs on all my devices. This hassle of the extra "_EXT" networks was the case with the NetGear EX3700 I was previously using. The problem with the NetGear approach was that, whilst it did a reasonable job of providing another network to use in a dead zone, when you moved into an area where the main router's network was stronger, my mobile devices would still be connected to the now weaker _EXT network, impairing performance. The OneMesh approach eliminates all that faff!

In terms of speed, in my garden I'm now getting 60Mbps download and upload with 25ms ping, which is totally useable for streaming!

So far then, I'm incredibly pleased with both the ease of set up and the performance. I highly recommend this if you have a OneMesh router!

It’s a good range extender with a couple of (important) “buts” when using “OneMesh”
First, it is not that seamlessly as advertised, once in a while I need to turn off/on WiFi in my phone when I move to other room to work properly. It is connected to the WiFi but no connectivity to internet. After the off/on it works fine.
Second, and a pain in the neck if you want to use DHCP reservation for your devices. When a device is connected through one of this extenders, the DHCP request is done with a virtual MAC address, first half from the extender own MAC address and second one from the device. So you will need to configure your DHCP server keeping this in mind as the same device will show its own MAC address when connected directly to the router or a modified one when connected to one of the extenders. I am using a TP Link Archer MR600 that doesn’t support multiple MACs for a same DHCP reservation, so I had to use an external DHCP server. When I inquired Technical Support about this they told me that this was the expected behaviour and when I pointed out the limitations of the router DHCP server, they simply didn’t answer.
