Does what a phone is supposed to do!
I recently purchased the sequel to the iconic Nokia 3310 known as the Nokia 3310 3G directly from giffgaff and this is my review. The primary reason for me opting to switch to as they say a ‘dumbphone’ is because I found myself getting too distracted by my smartphone and felt I needed a break from it. I’m not saying smartphones are terrible as I know they have their advantages, though I don’t want to become a person who walks around with his head in his phone having to dodge street lights. Now, the Nokia 3310 isn’t groundbreaking by any means (unless you drop it) as it doesn’t have a high-end processor, an OLED screen or even a camera that would make you want to put away your digital snapper. It’s a phone that does things a phone is supposed to do like make and take calls as well as texting and does this really well. The call and speaker quality are superb and as well as the battery life. It is reported that it has a standby time of one month. I have had this phone for nearly a week and it is yet to run out of battery.Nokia was very generous to include a 2MP rear camera on this device. For those of you who like taking self-portraits this phone isn't for you as it doesn't have a front camera. Nevertheless, there is a special feature within the camera settings that enables you to use the rear camera to take a selfie. The camera quality may not be on par with a smartphone just be appreciative that you're able to take a picture or a video if you really need to. In terms of build quality, this phone is made purely from plastic meaning you won't have to worry about shattering glass or denting metal if you were to drop it. Micro SD card expansion is also available for playing your music library on the go. Which is interesting seeing that even some expensive smartphones lack this feature. You audiophiles would also be pleased to know that there is also a headphone jack and is compatible with wireless Bluetooth headphones.Who is the Nokia 3310 for? The Nokia 3310 3G is great for anyone wanting to unplug from being bombarded with notifications and wants a minimalist phone. Someone who is not tech savvy and wants a phone for making/taking phone calls and text messaging. Rather someone who requires a backup phone for emergencies or those who solely want to pick one up for nostalgia. With all that said, the Nokia 3310 3G has been a reliable phone and I'm sure you will be happy with it should you wish to purchase it.

Exactly what I expected and wanted from a feature phone.
If you want a smartphone, you'll be disappointed, so buy a smartphone
instead.

Size is good and it fits in any pocket. Quite a thin feature phone.

Screen is clear and a good size for a feature phone.

Battery life is good. I usually charge it up once a week
after moderate use when the battery level just drops below half full.

Predictive text is good and can be turned off if not required.

Calendar is simple to use and you can set appointments and aural reminders.

The Torch function is quite effective and accessible from the home screen.

Texts are read and stored in a conversation mode same as my old Blackberry.

I popped my micro sim out of my old PAYG standard sim and it slotted in
and worked first time. Contacts transferred from sim to phone easily.

Bought a 32gig micro sd card on offer and that worked fine. Just need to go
into the menu and set everything to be saved to sd card.

Camera, obviously, is not as good as a smartphone or digital camera. But it's
fine for taking a pic and sending as mms. Pics also look ok on computer
as long as you don't enlarge them. Connect phone by usb cable to computer
and enable mass storage and you are good to go for transferring. Only tried it
on Windows and Red Hat Linux operating systems, but it worked fine on both.

Overall, I'm very pleased with this phone and is exactly what I wanted. It does
everything I want from a phone, and for anything else I use my laptops or
tablets. I don't really want to lug something the size of a sandwich plate around with for a phone,
or be charging it up once or twice a day.
You, of course, may have different requirements, and need the different functions of a smartphone.
Horses for courses.

The quality of the plastic on this phone is terrible. The phone arrived scratched, and it scratched again within 24 hours. The UI is fine, except there are trial versions of games installed that cannot be removed (and I'm not talking about the classic snake game). There is a web browser, but it is out of date by four versions, and even websites (like my own) which have no adverts on them display advertising. This isn't a real Nokia phone like they were in the old days. In fact, this phone isn't even made by Nokia, just a company licencing the name. If you're expecting one, then I'd buy a classic one from an auction site instead.

I have liked the nokia 3310 for some time it was one of my first phones. But now Nokia has re-released the new version of the Nokia 3310 and I wanted a simple phone for use at work just to make phone calls and this phone does not disappoint.
I have the phone for a week now and it still has a full charge in it and the signal strength is always full bars unlike my smartphone which I have to charge every day and the signal strength at work is terrible. The older phones were the best. I love this phone because it is simple to use and no wi fi, its great.

This is my second Nokia of the new version though I have had several of the earlier type. I have an I-pad so don’t need a smart phone so I mainly just phone or text. The case which was then suggested as fitting the Nokia did not in fact have access to the ear phone. I like this phone’s simplicity. I charge it up daily. It does not have a touch screen, but it has a camera although I don’t think it has great capacity to store many photos. I can use it as a radio with ear plugs.

Be aware that there are two very different versions, both released in 2017, of the Nokia 3310: the basic one (2G only) and this one which offers 3G/2G. To help distinguish them further, *as far as I can tell*, the earlier 2017 version (2G) has the flash to the side of the camera lens; in the later one (3G/2G) it's above it. The differences don't stop there. The basic 2G 3310, the dumb version you might say, seems to have more functionality and shortcuts conveniently built into its LH and RH buttons than seems the case with this 3G version. Having now had both models - alas the 2G died after it took a plunge - and after a few hours of messing around with the 3G version looking for the missing features and wondering why they've disappeared, I can say without a doubt that I prefer the 2G. In fact, I was so concerned with the comparative inconvenience of this 3G model that I was actually beginning to wonder if I'd got a fake. I guess not, though trawling YouTube didn't make me really any the wiser as to how to spot one. I ended up spotting the fake/misinformed reviews instead! Yes, the 3G model has got twitter and facebook and more games, but I can get by without all that. And Nokia's manual for the 3G is a joke, eg, it repeatedly refers to 'Go to' without ever explaining how you go to Go to in the first place. Contacts too seems unnecessarily complicated compared with 2G and didn't import that well from a SIM card that was previously in the 2G phone.
So, if I had to choose again, I'd go for the 2G.
PS (heads-up). According to the Nokia 3310 3G manual accidentally dialling an emergency service with the keylock on shouldn't be possible: it says you need to unlock the keys first. However, I appear not to be the only one to have discovered that this just isn't the case: the slightest pressure on the 1 key from the cover of a phone wallet as it sat in my handbag meant that I was 2/3 the way to unwittingly dialling a UK emergency number. The 9 key is also not locked... Now I can see there may be a benefit in this in a real emergency: it's quite a palaver to first unlock the keypad as instructed in the manual. But the downside is also undesirable. Hobson's choice, I guess, but do not rely on what the manual says.
POSTSCRIPTS
March 2022. I have received this text message from Vodafone re the closure in 2023 of 3G networks in the UK: "... As your current phone [in my case the Nokia 3310 2017 2G/3G] is using our 3G network for calls and data, it'll switch over to 2G when our network closes. This will still allow you to send texts and make calls ... "
Make of that what you will!
April 2024. Vodafone tells me it has now switched off 3G. Hah. 'Frankly m'dear, I couldn't give a demn'! 2G in my area of East Anglia is more than adequate for my needs; a laptop does the rest. I'm more concerned at being deprived sometime in the nearish future of a landline. That, alarmingly, will leave too many eggs in just the one, highly vulnerable basket.
