I like to have an Android as a backup to my iPhone and this is perfect. It has decent specifications and works well. The camera is good in daylight outside but inside and when it’s darker the quality of pics suffer a bit. Overall I am quite impressed.

This phone is super impressive when it comes to value for money. It's hard to find anything that matches what's on offer here in this price range, especially in the UK. The phone arrived in a compact box with a usb c charging lead but no charging adapter, which is fine, most of us already have a suitable one. The UK versions don't come with a case either, so it's really just the phone and the cable in the box. The phone looks nice, especially the vegan leather back option offers something different than every other phone. The frame is made of plastic and the front is glass of course. It's a solid built and it's comfortable holding it. I have to say these specs are amazing, the 8gb of ram is plenty and the 256gb storage matches many top of the range phones so it's certainly nice to have in a sub £200 phone. On top of this you can use a micro sd card up to a whopping 1tb if you want to. The specs are impressing in other areas too, like the screen which has 1080p+ resolution and 90Hz refresh rate - again a rare thing for this much money. I ran some synthetic benchmarks and I was quite surprised to see that the moto g54 matches the performance of flagship phones from 2020 which is impressive to say the least. Where it fell behind was the gpu tests where it wasn't as powerful, so that's bad news for serious gamers, but casual gamers should be ok. The phone comes with android 13 out of the box and the upgrade to android 14 is guaranteed, however no more major android versions after that. The phone will get security updates until September 2026 based on motorola's official site. It's promised to be bi-monthly security updates, but that's not quite true...the g54 came out in September 2023 and the latest security update available at the time of writing (May 2024) is of Dec 2023. So it's not perfect, but it's not worse than competitors in this price segment. The camera is a pretty important feature for almost everybody and my experience is that the phone can take decent photos, but they look quite processed. The photos are sharp, but in an artificial way. For me this is not a problem as I only use it as a work phone to take photos of jobs done and for that it's perfect, but it doesn't take natural looking nice photos as more expensive phones can. Performance is great in real life, although I didn't install many apps on mine. I only ever notice some stuttering when launching the camera, or gallery, but after a few seconds this stuttering disappears and the phone is good to go. Unfortunately there were some bloatware preinstalled on the phone but luckily all of them are removable. There is some degree of splash resistance but no official IP rating, it's still better than nothing. The battery is huge, 5000mAh, again a flagship worthy number, and it last days for me with very light use. Even with heavier usage, it should get anybody through a day I think. Charging is not very fast, but I don't mind to live with some compromises to get a cheap phone. I think motorola struck the perfect balance with cutting corners and offering a low price with the g54. You get an excellent screen that is on par with £500+ phones, enough RAM and plenty of storage. Big battery and good performance compliments the package. What is sacrificed is more major android upgrades, and the speed at which security updates arrive. The camera is decent for the money but won't be for everyone. Charging is slow too. All in all it's a really good value for money phone and I can only recommend it.

I bought this Moto G54 after reading a number of positive reviews and owning a Moto G9 Play for 3 years - I have not been disappointed. These are the pros and areas for development with this handset -

Pros

- Looks/feels well made for the price point - I like the vegan leather back finish.
- Slim profile for a phone at this price, the screen goes almost up to the edge with a minimal bezel.
- The screen quality is good (Full HD/120Hz) and bright, plus colours are vibrant but natural. Text is clear and sharp and the screen can be read in most sunlight.
- Generous memory, 8GB plus 256GB onboard plus a Micro SD card expansion slot for up to 1TB.
- Motorola hasn't messed about with Android 13 except for including a few games that are easily deleted and the extra Moto app is useful.
- Call quality in both directions and network reception are good.
- Charging is fast enough, battery life is a good average from the 5000mAh cell - the phone easily lasts a 24-hour day with a few calls, internet browsing and viewing of emails. A fast charger is included in the box.
- Camera quality (front and back) is very reasonable for the price point plus the phone copes with low light quite well and has optical stabilisation built in. The macro is effective too.
- Sound quality is very reasonable and features Dolby Atmos.
- Headphone socket is provided - old school but useful!

Areas for development

- Limited choice of pre-loaded wallpapers/ringtones.
- Audio could go louder when used with corded earphones.
- Water repellent but not to a stated "IP" standard.
- Nothing much else, especially at the price!

I haven't included wireless charging above, as although desirable, no other phones in this category (to my knowledge) offer the feature - you have to go up quite a few tiers until it's likely to be included.

Overall, a really good value phone with decent performance.

Update - the phone received an over the air update to Android 14 recently and is functioning well.

I bought this after I dropped my Realme phone, smashing its screen! Did some research, and came up with this. Realme phones have gone up in price somewhat (my old phone was great), so I looked elsewhere. I'd owned a very good Moto phone before my Realme phone, which I'd handed on to my son, so I know Motorola phones are good.
This is a fabulous phone. Loads of storage. 5G. Battery life is excellent. Charges fairly quickly. Great screen. Some people have criticised the camera, but I think it's taking great photos. My only criticism is that I can't put two SIMs in it, but I very rarely need to do that, so it's no big deal. There is a slot for a microSD card for even more storage. I would definitely recommend this phone. It is fantastic value at around £170 when I bought it.

Received this today, replacement for my wife's phone. Have it set up in 2 hours all apps etc. recovered from old phone. Its light, lovely screen( don't let anyone tell you because it's LCD it's "dark, no colours".. it's really vivid as is the supposedly weak camera! Easy to use, fits beautifully in one hand for use and even with some easily removable bloatware, has everything you need on it. Almost stock android... Lovely and light and feels solid in the hand. Great for the price...came 60% charged, not a sign of taking fingerprints on the back and no lags in apps or switching screens. Highly recommend it...

Nonostante sia uno smartphone di fascia economica, è ottimo sia per la parte telefonia che per la componente fotografica. Purtroppo Motorola ha sempre lo stesso problema dai tmpi dello Startac: pur avendo una batteria da 5000 mAH, a parità di condizioni di impiego, la durata è di gran lunga inferiore a telefoni con stessa capacità ma soprattutto, durante la ricarica a mio parere scalda eccessivamente. Ho preferito effettuare il reso.
