External DVD Drive
I got this external DVD drive to rip some of my old CDs onto my laptop as it doesn't have a built-in optical drive. This particular model features a built-in SD/Micro SD card reader and also has 2 USB-A ports so you don't lose a port when connected to your laptop or computer. It also has a micro USB socket which I can only imagine is an alternative power port although the cable supplied is a USB-C to USB-A cable and the cable which is attached to the back of the unit has both a USB-C and USB-A connection. The build quality is nothing special being made of a slightly textured black plastic with a CD shaped detail on the top and a red silicone circular pad at the centre. The CD tray opens from the front of the unit by pressing the small rectangular button on the left side but it needs to be plugged in to open. I have tested it on one of my CDs and it copied it pretty quickly onto my computer with no problem so it certainly works as described and the SD card reader is bonus. At £19.99 it seems reasonably priced.

Decent enough drive for the money, has several extra slots making it a bit more versatile than the disc-only alternatives.

Tried it out on a laptop through the USB-A port, and although the drive was picked up OK, it struggled with a DVD disc due to power issues. That's to be expected really, and swapping over to a USB-C port did the trick. I've had this on other models too, so wasn't surprised at all.

The build quality again is to be expected at this budget price-point, it's 'OK', nothing more. They've got a bit 'arty' with the top cover to make it stand out a little, but that's about it. The extra ports/sockets are good to have if you're stuck connection points on your laptop or PC, but given how little these drives are used nowadays, it probably won't be connected for long enough to become a real problem.

It does the job, haven't had any problems or glitches while using it, so in that regard it's fine.

On a quality/value-for-money basis... 4-Stars.

I really love the lead that is stowed neatly away underneath the drive. It has both USB-C and USB-A ends so will work with any PC/laptop that is supported. This is probably why the lead is so short and for laptops this will be fine and keep things tidy. For my PC my USB ports aren't in a convenient place so the short lead is a problem. It's not really the fault of this drive and I'd rather have a tidy cable that something that is really long. Just check for your common use-case as you might need to get a cable extender.

The drive was picked up by my Windows 11 PC along with the card reader too. Everything worked as expected.

I'm a little perplexed by the design where the top looks like a mini-vinyl record. It's kinda cool but seems pointless.

Excellent alternative to a USB hub if you also need a DVD drive. This drive is really quite versatile with what it offers, and the connection options. I particuarly like the embedded cable which fastens away neatly underneath - it really does add to the portability of this! Worked without issue, would recommend.

This is CD/DVD drive is really handy and offers great value for money. These days, a lot of laptops and even some PC’s don’t have CD drives which isn’t ideal if you want to burn off DVD’s or you just have some memories or files saved on old disks that you want to access which is exactly why I ordered this.

First off, this CD/DVD drive is extremely easy to use. With its USB connectivity, it’s compatible with a wide range of devices, including laptops, desktop PCs, MacBooks, and more. Set up is simple, you basically just plug it in, download the required software and your good to go.

What sets this external drive apart is its 6-in-1 functionality. Not only can it play CDs and DVDs, but it can also burn and write data onto discs, making it perfect for backing up important files or creating custom music or video discs.

So far, I’ve found it really efficient, allowing me to access and transfer data quickly and effortlessly. Plus, its slim and lightweight design makes it perfect for travel or use on the go. Overall, I couldn’t be happier with this CD/DVD Drive. Highly recommended.

This arrived today and I just so happened to have some time on my hands this afternoon to give it a pretty good testing session. Firstly I should say that the device showed up straight away on my laptop when I plugged it in. I did have to go to My Computer (Windows 11 user) to see it, it didn't pop up by itself but that's OK.

Now, in order to test it thouroughly as a player I have tested it with a shop bought DVD, a shop bought CD, a previously burnt unofficial DVD, a previously burnt unofficial CD and a shop bought PC game disc. I am happy to say this external drive has handled all that I have thrown at it efficiently and without incident.

Now, having patted myself on the back for "thoroughly testing it as a player" I have to confess that I have not tried it as a burner yet, for the simple fact I have nothing that I need/want to burn right now. Based on it's performance as a player though, I have no reason to believe it won't be just as straightforward and efficient as it was as a player.

Overall I'm very happy. The first and most important thing to me is that it works as promised. As such I am happy to have it around as a useful bit of kit for whatever future disc needs that may arise.
