Although the pens are pretty, the box is very flimsy so does not look well travelled, with all the pens in disarray on arrival. As it is only for myself, it is not a big issue-you would be unable to give as a gift and definitely not worth the money (even on special offer).

Who among us doesn't remember using at least one multiple-coloured ballpoint pen in their younger days? When I was first given one I thought that a pen which could offer 4 different colours for writing was almost magical.

In some ways the pens haven't changed much since those days. They're still fat and plastic and the default writing colours are still blue, black, red, green. Where this set differs, however, is in the wide range of colours of the pens themselves and the fact that a number of them have refills that are outside the norm - yellow, orange, pink, purple. The 8 and 10 year old girls in the family went "Oooh!" and we didn't see them for a while as they were testing each of the pens.

These ballpoints aren't for me because I find the writing line too fine but the girls absolutely loved them and so did several older members of the family. They ended up being distributed between several different households, not all of which contain children.

The box in which the pens arrive looks attractive but in practice is rather flimsy and wouldn't be suitable for long-term storage of the pens. Other than that, this set represents good value. The pens could be used for colouring because of the range of refill colours and, as with my family, could be split between several recipients. Recommended.

Well you can't beat a BIC 4 colour pen can you?

This is a great collection, mostly these are the standard (Black, Blue, Red & Green) colours although 4 of them are special colours like pastels or flourescents. Each is a different texture or colour barrel, such as chrome, wood, patterned and aerange of colours. It's going to last a while but I gave a few to colleagues and friends in their favourite colours.

As others have said the box arrived a little battered considering the relatively high cost for the set but this is only a minor point.

Pros:
1- As a big fan of multi-colour pens, I'm pleased with this set's comprehensive selection of essential colours. It's perfect for various uses, whether at work, school or elsewhere.

A special collection of BIC 4 Colours pens in a special collector's box - sounds great. In most respects it really is. It's a shame that the first impression is spoilt somewhat by the packaging. The pens themselves are a real mix of different cases with colours and textures that really stand out from the normal boring plastic pen.

The collector box is a brightly coloured cardboard with a central cutout design of the classic pen shape. The lid is sealed with two sticky plastic circles, which - thankfully - do peel off without tearing the surface of the cardboard. Unfortunately, when they're removed the box stretches slightly and the central pens drop out of their neat slots. Is it a big deal - no, but it does spoil the effect of opening a collector box. The annoying thing is that the lid does have tabs to slot in and close it properly, but these have to be separated manually along perforations. If these were pre-installed it might prevent the box from distorting.

Perhaps I'm making it sound like a big thing and it's really not. But it was a tad disappointing given the attention to detail elsewhere. The pens have a range of designs including textures (wood on one and velvet lobsters on another), patterns and shiny gradients. One of the pens has 1.6mm points and there are four different colour combinations although most are the traditional black, blue, red and green. Worth remembering that you're actually getting the equivalent of 60 pens (15 x 4 colours) and the ink cartridges are replaceable so no waste in throwing away the pens.

I hadn't used a 4 Colour pen since school (many years ago) but it's like a day hasn't passed - the pens all work almost immediately with no scribbling required to get the ink to flow, and the clips to change colours are just like I remember them. It's a great set.

Brilliant collection of multicolour pens, in a presentation box that is perfect as a gift for a pen/stationary collector.

There is a huge range of styles, including a fab wooden barrel one, all have the 4 colour push down multi pens, but not all are the standard blue, black, red, green some have really unusual choices.

The only not so good point is the packaging, I think if the box was a little smaller it would hold the pens much more securely and allow them to display much better.

My box around half the pens had come out of the card holders and were moving around which caused the presentation to be not so great.
