Great for my job on building site
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 August 2020
Blackview have done a good job designing this budget phone for a user who just needs a sturdy phone with basic features. BUT, don't go thinking this is a great phone... it's not, and it's not meant to be. I've broken down the key features of this phone but bear in mind that at the moment I've owned the phone for 24 hours so this is initial impressions:

1. Build Quality - honestly this is very good, and just what it says on the tin. It feels rugged, but not cheap at all, nice to hold, nice metal accents and the plastic looks good too. I'm not worries about dropping it or dunking it. The buttons are great, nice and clicky, the fingerprint sensor is very good 95% of the time, but does miss occasionally. For the money, you get a really well built phone!

2. Performance - not slow, NOT fast. Expect apps to take a few seconds to boot up, and occasional lags when you press a button. Animations are okay, but you'l notice lag when you scroll quickly. Videos play okay, youtube is no issue. Depends what phone you are coming from. I'm coming from an iPhone 7, which is pretty old now and still runs much smoother than this. In short, don't expect games to run well at all, messaging is absolutely fine (typing is no problem) and watching videos is fine too.

3. Sound - not good. Tinny speakers, not a rich sound. You can clearly here what someone is saying, but if you'd like to listen to music on this, I'd advise a different phone, or use headphones (the phone comes with some, but I assume these are not great). Calls sound okay though, so again, it does what you need.

4. Camera - generally speaking, BAD. You can tweak the settings to get an okay shot, and it will be fine if you just need to send a photo of something for reference, but this is NOT a phone for instagram or making memories. It has a 13 MP sensor, but this means nothing. It is a cheap CHEAP sensor. Please please do not get this if you care about the camera. It is basic, flat colours, poor detail, and compared to my old iphone 7 it just does not compare. It also has two cameras on the back but seems to only use one... I literally cannot find a way of using the other. The portrait/bokeh mode does not even seem to use it. Okay, I've said enough.

5. Calls - seems to work fine so far. I hear them, they hear me, no problems.

6. NFC - Okay, I've not actually used this yet, but it is most certainly there. Google pay is limiting though and does not accept my cards with Barclays - this is more Barclay's fault but just check if there is compatibility here.

7. Battery - one of the big seller of this phone. The battery lasts two days of moderate use. To me this means that as the battery dies over time it will still always last a full day. BUT, I expect this battery is cheap and will lose it's life quicker than others. Right now, as a new phone, the battery life is good. Probably on par with the iphone XR or something like that. I've read three days banded about in places, and my opinion is no, don't expect 3 days from this. Just because it has high capacity doesn't mean it will last ages. The chip is power hungry and it has a big screen etc... It's good, not amazing.

8. Screen - Just what you need. Colours are okay, not as good as any iphone or samsung, but not terrible. Resolution is good, but you can see the pixels. Remember the good ol days when you could see the pixels?? Buy this phone and relive the good times! But seriously you can hardly see them and the screen is still very sharp for most purposes. Small text on images will be tough to read.

9. OS - it uses Android 9 (pie). Does everything you need, and so far I've seen no upgrade to Android 10, but this does not bother me.

Okay that's all I can think of for now, maybe I will come back and add some more with time. I paid £130 for the phone, and I think it is worth the money. As long as you don't need a good camera, and you're happy with a little bit of lag then this phone is great :)

I hope this helps folks

Being the happy owner of a Blackview tablet, when the time came for a new phone, I went for the BV5300 Pro, on the basis of its spec and the good price. On the face of it, it's not a bad phone, solidly built and a good size at 6.1", without being too unwieldy. I especially liked: a) the good-sized RAM (up to 7GB) and the larger in-built memory (64GB), allowing you to store plenty of apps on the phone. Another very appealing feature was the tray that allows you to have two SIM cards plus a micro SD card of up to 1TB, a feature which I have not yet come across on any other phone - all in all the omens looked good... Unfortunately, on opening the phone back up the morning after setting it all up (having been left on overnight), I found that the home page had reverted to one of the stock wallpapers, despite me setting it up the previous day with one of my own photos, which made me start to wonder about the stability of the operating system... In use, all seemed to work fine with good battery life, although, irritatingly, it was next to impossible to actually tell what the battery level was from the home screen, due to the TINY text size of the battery indicator - for a function that's going to be referred to quite regularly, that is quite a let-down. On the subject of the battery, when you do come to charge the phone, you'll need each time to remove a very tight plug at the bottom of the case to expose the socket, but this can't really be classed as a fault, it's just the price that you pay for owning a water resistant ruggedised smartphone that can't be charged by induction (and is, of course, preferable to it leaking, if immersed). The phone's worst failing though is the blank black screen you get when there's an incoming call, and no amount of swiping here, there or anywhere will allow you to pick up the call - very, very frustrating. I referred this to the seller's customer service department who, in fairness, responded quickly, but unfortunately their proposed solution (to restore the phone to its factory settings) did not work, and really, we're well into the 21st century now, and smartphones have been around for a while, so is it too much to ask that the basic functions of such a phone work straight out of the box? Anyway, long story short, the phone's going back and I'll probably end up spending a bit more on a phone that does what it should, without the need for 'user-tinkering'.
