I sat in my house in sweats of anticipation waiting for this to arrive. Alexa sat in the corner of my office. She started to blink that familiar yellow. You have one unread notification. My heart pounded in it's little chest. My amazon delivery had arrived! I skipped and hopped like a little 8 year old kid, off to collect my little gift. All my amazing photos were no longer going to gather dust in my trusty D700! Just imagine the excitement of my family when they see all my wares!I sat it on the table. The familiar brown packet with the flying arrow. Or whatever the heck that logo is. I couldn't wait any longer. I tug on the paper zip lock, and turned it over. Out popped the memory card reader. There it was. There it was!! Shining in all it's glory! (Not really, it's black). With a shiver in my hands I carefully pulled out the instruction manual. Insert the card first? Odd, but ok. So being a good little boy, I inserted my precious flash card first. Delicately and with excitement, I sure didn't want to mess this up! And then I plugged this baby in to my laptop.YES! There sat the delicious D700 folder in all its glory! With eager anticipation, I click on the folder. And there are my photos... I think... they look odd... maybe it's my deteriorating eyesight... I open up the first. YES! It's my wife and my 2 kids. And it looks good! Bit out of focus, but I can't blame the card reader for my shoddy camera skills! I move on to the next. My mums head has been chopped and deformed into 4 repositioned blue quadrants on the screen. This doesn't look right. Next. My wife and 2 kids... their legs have just been... corrupted away? Is corrupted even a verb? This photo definitely doesn't have legs. The legs were definitely there. This can't be right. I'm doing something wrong here. I plug out the device. Remove the USB-C and try the standard USB instead. Plug it back in. That picture of my wife and kids... it's now yellow and pixelated to within an inch of it's life. I quickly flick through a bunch. My dad has his face sliced in 2... horizontally... Like as if Damien from the Omen found his way into my camara and sliced him open.I put the card back in my trusty D700. All of the images look pretty damn fine there... So, I try another port.Sweet mother of... of a flying kangaroo... in lack of using bad words... a photo of my 2 kids looking... rather BLUE...I can't get over how incredibly poor this is. I try another port... I try another laptop... I try my desktop computer... EVERY SINGLE TIME MY POOR MOTHER HAS HALF A HEAD.You had one job, card reader.... ONE JOB....Zero stars, if only I was able to!
Beikell 4 in 1 USB C & USB 3.0 Card Reader Adapter The Beikell card reader comes packed in a small colour printed box, the device is inside in a plastic packet. There is also a user guide which is quite comprehensive. The card reader is a fairly small unit with the USB C plug on a generous (nearly 50cm) length of lead. The connecting plug is a USB A type and a USB C converter is also moulded onto the end of the lead. The Beikell reader accepts both SD and micro SD pattern cards, the SD socket can also accept MMC type cards, and there are sockets for Compact Flash and Memory Stick cards. I have recently wanted to clone some Micro SD cards and I already have several card readers, many of which claim to be able to read and write to the inserted cards simultaneously but don’t, in fact, they only recognise the first card that is inserted. However, this Beikell card reader works perfectly. Of course, I had to put one of the Micro SD cards into a standard SD converter but that was all. I also use the Beikell reader for transferring files to a 3D printer using a Raspberry Pi 4b SBC to run Octoprint. Having access to two cards speeds things up when making alterations to a design as I can easily copy files between the cards in one go. The previous method required copying files to the PC, swapping cards and then back again.
I recently had the opportunity to test the Beikell 4-in-1 Dual Connector USB C & USB 3.0 Card Reader, and I must say that its performance and quality completely surpassed my expectations. This compact and versatile device allows for the simultaneous reading of up to four memory cards, making it the perfect companion for photographers, videographers, and data enthusiasts.
What sets this card reader apart from others on the market is its ability to support both USB C and USB 3.0 connections. Whether I needed to connect it to my latest laptop or an older computer, the Beikell Card Reader effortlessly managed to establish a stable and reliable data transfer. The device is backward compatible, so no matter the system requirements, you can count on smooth and efficient usage.
The build quality of the Beikell Card Reader is exceptional. Made from durable materials, it feels sturdy and capable of withstanding regular use without any signs of wear and tear. The compact size ensures that it easily fits into any bag or pocket, making it a convenient accessory for those constantly on the move.
When it comes to performance, this card reader truly shines. With its support for multiple memory card formats, including SDHC, SDXC, MicroSD, and more, I was able to read and transfer data between various cards in a matter of seconds. The inclusion of SD and microSD card slots allows for easy and simultaneous access to different card types, saving time and eliminating the need for multiple card readers.
Additionally, the data transfer speeds were impressive, thanks to the USB 3.0 compatibility. Even with larger files, the Beikell Card Reader managed to maintain a swift and uninterrupted transfer process, ensuring that I could quickly access and work with my data.
In terms of compatibility, the Beikell Card Reader works flawlessly with both Windows and Mac operating systems. I appreciate the convenience of not having to install any additional drivers or software before being able to fully utilize the card reader's features.
Overall, I highly recommend the Beikell 4-in-1 Dual Connector USB C & USB 3.0 Card Reader for its exceptional quality, outstanding performance, and versatility. Whether you are a professional photographer or simply a casual user in need of a reliable memory card reader, this product exceeds expectations. Invest in this device, and you won't be disappointed!
I bought this item to replace one I bought a few years ago in the Maplin close down sale. The Maplin item was very fussy about the cards it would recognise. If a memory card was not formatted in a format Windows understood it would be ignored which made it impossible to write cards for use with my Raspberry Pi hardware. I actually thought that this was the USB interface was getting in the way, because all cards plugged into laptop built-in readers which were interfaced via their native SPI interface were recognised. My latest laptop does not have a built-in reader and so I was stuck until I bought this Beikell device which recognises all cards regardless of format. So the problem was the old card reader and nothing to do with the USB interface. Consequently, I am very pleased with this product.
I had to replace my no name card reader which, after years of service, succumbed to built-in obsolescence. The difference between it and the Beikell is that the old reader would accept any card and transfer speeds were generally consistent. The Beikell is definitely fussier and, on some cards, slows the transfer down to a crawl. It also frequently needs a good push to seat the card in the reader. While it works, I really can't recommend anyone buying this product.
