Product Description

hdmi to displayport cable display port dvi adapter dp

Product Description

With the Plugable DisplayPort to HDMI Active Adapter (DP-HDMI), convert the DisplayPort output on your device–laptop, desktop, tablet, docking station–to HDMI. Now you’re ready to connect to virtually any HDMI-enabled display.

How important is an Active Adapter? Active Adapters use an integrated chipset to convert the DisplayPort signal from the computer to an HDMI signal. The Plugable adapter supports resolutions up to 4K (3840x2160) 60Hz on displays with Standard Dynamic Range (SDR), and 4K 30Hz with High Dynamic Range (HDR) capable displays.

Applications

  • Connect an HDMI-equipped display to a DisplayPort-equipped device
  • Connect additional HDMI displays to AMD Eyefinity or NVIDIA Surround capable graphics cards
  • Small and sturdy, so it can go where you go

In the Bag

  • Plugable DisplayPort to HDMI Active Adapter

Please note that an HDMI cable is not included.

Compatibility

Compatible Setups Compatible with PC laptops, desktops, tablets, or DisplayPort docking stations that have a full-sized DisplayPort output port to add a HDMI-capable monitor, TV, or projector
In order to display a 4K resolution the host's graphics processor and attached display need to be 4K capable
Incompatible Setups This adapter is not bi-directional and will not convert video in the other direction
Not compatible with HDR (requires HDMI 2.0b or HDMI 2.1)
Refresh rate may be limited to 30Hz on 4K HDR televisions

What is an active adapter? How is it different from a passive adapter?

An Active DisplayPort adapter has an integrated circuit to convert a DisplayPort signal to HDMI, DVI, or VGA. DisplayPort uses a different digital signaling type than HDMI and DVI (which use the same type), both of these signaling types are very different from VGA's analog signal.

Passive adapters rely on the graphics controller to selectively deliver the correct graphics signal using the DisplayPort output. Generally, this leads to reduced resolution or refresh rate compared to Active Adapters. Additionally using passive adapters may limit the number of connected displays in AMD Eyefinity and NVIDIA Surround setups.

Why doesn't this work with HDR 4K televisions?

HDR or HDR10 is a new technology that requires additional color and brightness data to be transmitted from the computer to the display. This requires the host computer to support DisplayPort 1.4 or HDMI 2.0b or HDMI 2.1, our adapter is designed for SDR (non-HDR) displays and converts from DisplayPort 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 and is incompatible with the HDR specification.

When connected to an HDR television, the television will attempt to enable HDR over the connection even though it is not supported causing reduced refresh rate or image quality. Some televisions provide options to disable HDR but most will enable and prioritize HDR over image quality and refresh rate.

Excellent product, highly recommend.
I have a Lenovo W530 laptop with the Nvidia Quadro K1000M video card, along with the docking port with to Display Ports (in addition to 1 VGA and 2 DVI). I recently decided to purchase two 40" LG 40UB8000 TV's with 4k resolution at 60Hz which I connected to the two display ports of the docking port with regular DP to HDMI adapters. This only allowed a 1920x1080 resolution at 60Hz, so I proceeded to purchase two Plugable Active DisplayPort to HDMI adapters, and I can happily indicate that both my 40" 4k TV (monitors) now have full 4k resolution, although at 30Hz - which is the maximum under the HDMI 1.4 version. In the future there may be converters from DP to HDMI 2.0 which allow for the full 60HZ at 4K. I would also like to mention that my setup actually allows me to set the 4k monitors at 4096 x 2160 at 30Hz, in addition to the 3840 x 2160 (native) resolution of the TV's (monitors). No additional drivers where needed, other than the most recent Nvidia drivers for this card. At 30Hz the mouse is a little "slower" moving across the screen, but I believe this is due to the 1000dpi mouse resolution, which requires me to move across the table to get across the larger resolution, not to mention across both 4k monitors. I will most probably get a higher 8000dpi (adjustable) mouse to compensate - though some lagging may due to the lower refresh. As an additional note, these adapters made it possible for me to use 40" 4k TV screens as monitors (which only have HDMI 2.0 inputs) which I believe are more usable than the 28" 4k monitors (that do have Displayport inputs), since the 4k resolution at 28" is not comfortable for me where all fonts are extremely small - similar to having 1920x1080 on a 14" laptop screen. 40" 4k is more usable, similar to having 1080 on a 20" screen.

At first, it did not work, but I finally found a way and it works well now.

My desktop is i7-4790K. It supports 4k 60Hz but it has limited bandwidth. From the Intel HD Graphics control panel, adding custom resolution does not seem to support 3840x2160x60hz. But when I set the timing standard as "CVT-RB", it supports this resolution! So, all my problems were coming from the integrated graphics, not this adapter. This adapter works well as well as other expensive ones which cost more than 50 dollars.

----- (before update) -----
I read many reviews that it worked, but not my case.

I have dell XPS15, LG UN7300 tv and HDMI 2.0 cable. They work well. (although dell laptops have common problem on 4k output.) So my TV and HDMI cable is verified for 4k 60Hz.

My desktop is i7-4790K which has intel HD graphics 4600. Mainboard is ASUS z97-A. It supports 4k 30Hz through HDMI and 4k 60Hz through DP. Mainboard also support DP 1.2 and maximum resolution is 3840x2160 60Hz.
I plugged in this DP to HDMI adapter. But still maximum refresh rate for 3840x2160 is 30Hz. It was very disappointed. I could not find any other factor than this adapter that limits refresh rate. If I cannot find any reason till this weekend, I will return this adapter.

I read other reviews saying this adapter worked just fine for them for their Oculus Rift, but I was not so lucky. When I plugged this into the GPU, then plugged my Rift into this adapter, I kept getting black screens with the occasional flashing of the headset display or static.

Thankfully I have a 4K TV (Not HDR) hooked up to my PC as well, so I just used this for that instead and aside from it being a little slow for the display to show up for me when I turn the TV on, it does work fairly well. I've yet to see any difference between the TV being plugged into this compared to being plugged directly into the GPU's HDMI port.

From the research I've done, no display port adapter is guaranteed to 100% work with the rift, so it's a gamble to buy any of them for the rift exclusively. So my best suggestion would be to use this for a monitor or TV while using the Rift in the GPU's HDMI slot instead.

The first adapter I received didn't work well (on the sound level) on my PC equipped with a GTX 970,4k 60Hz resolution on SONY XBR49X700D, especially with Linux where the sound cut off in an untimely way.
But Plugable's support service is amazing, after a few tests, they sent me (assuming the postage costs) a new adapter that they took the trouble to test before. I now have a product that IMPECCABLY FUNCTIONED, even under Linux (Debian Jessie).
I want to make it clear that all these good words are not the result of a sponsorship from Plugable but just a customer who is more than satisfied with excellent customer service (thanks David).
For those of you who, like me, always hesitate before buying online because of the after-sales hassle when something doesn't work, I highly recommend this seller.

I've been using an old Lenovo Tiny M715q as my HTPC (Home Theater PC), but the version I have doesn't have the HDMI output option. So it only has DisplayPort outputs. I tried DP->HDMI Cable and two other DP->HDMI adapters, but they were all limited 60Hz. This one works with 120Hz. Perfect!
