I bought this tracker to keep an eye on my Ford SuperDuty after having it stolen not once but twice. We have tried other anti theft methods ( Steering wheel club and an Alarm system and that still didn't stop it from getting stolen. last time it was stolen it was gone for 20 days..... Yes 20 days. After having my truck gone that long and then getting it back and going thru the hassle of paint repairs, and steering column replacement and wheel and rim damage I decided enough was enough and it was time to GPS this truck.
So I bought one of these units and the accompanying magnet case. So far I am very very impressed with this unit it's small enough that it wouldn't be noticed easily hidden in the truck and I sure dont want any thieves to notice it since they keep ransacking it after they steal it. Now I looked at the GPS unit and while it seems very sturdy and well built I didn't want to take a chance in it getting bashed around so I purchased the magnetic case to make sure the GPS didn't get thrashed around by these clowns that steal vehicles driving it like idiots ( remember all the wheel and rim damage, the alignment shop said that the clowns who stole the truck probably went over curbs and meridians while they had it or where trying to get away from the police or doing other crimes) So I want to make sure where I placed the GPS it wasn't going to get bounced around.
The magnet cases is solid like a rock, very well built and looks like it could take some abuse, The GPS unit sits in the case very firmly and the latches that hold the case close aren't anything where you will have to worry about it falling out because the latch came open. The case has a double latch and has two very very strong magnets on it, so if you placed this underneath or inside on a steel or metal surface it should hold in place very well. I turned the GPS unit on and put it in the magnetic case and I placed this unit inside the cab underneath the dash and stuck it to a spot where there was metal that would be up and under the passenger side foot well dash area and it stuck on their really well. I got the wife to take the truck to work and proceeded to the page where you can track the GPS.
So put in the log in information and presto you could see the GPS unit was active and the information on where the truck was, whether the engine was running and even how the battery life was in the GPS unit. Once the wife left for work I tracked the progress of her trip to work on the MAP at the web page. I have to say it's very cool to see all the route information and where she made stops on her trip to work ( I thought she said she quit going to Tim Hortons for coffee every morning?? ) and the route she took.and the time it took her.
So far I am very impressed with what I have seen so far out of this unit. Now one thing I did notice is that the map was a little off by about 30 meters as to where the location of truck was before she started her trip ( it showed on the map the truck was over at the neighbors house 3 houses down ( approx 30 meters or so ) whether that is an anomaly or not we will have to see as this was the first time using the GPS but I still cant complain because that's still damn close to narrow down where the truck is if it gets stolen again to give the police or myself an area to locate it at.
The user interface of the webpage where you track your GPS is easy to use and pretty self explanatory but you can always chat with customer support if you have questions like I did before I purchased my GPS unit. So far I have no complaints on this unit and the price for the unit itself and the monitoring cost which seemed like a bargain compared to other makers GPS units cost and the monitoring charges ( some GPS companies out there that wanted you to pay 3 months or 6 months or even a year in advance for service before you even used it once!!! ) I wasn't very excited about the idea of paying so far in advance for a unit that a person hadn't even used yet, especially if the service or GPS unit doesn't perform well then you have to fight to get your money back or are stuck in a contract with a GPS unit or monitoring that doesn't work well and that is a waste of money , and I am picky about where my money goes.
All in all very satisfied so far with how this little gem and how it performs and the webpage for monitoring of the GPS unit. If the GPS keeps working and performing like it has so far I would seriously consider putting these in our other vehicles and especially in our fifth wheel trailer since thieves like to steal those as well and our fifth wheel trailer is stored on a friends acreage and this way we could keep an eye on the trailer without having to be there. I like that idea. All in all I dont think a person can go wrong with this GPS unit and at the price, very inexpensiveness to get into and monitor compared to some of the others GPS units and their monitoring services out there
