I have had robot vacuums on in my house since the first version of the iRobot Roomba. I currently have a Dreame L20 Ultra in the main living level of my house, an Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni on the bedroom level, and a Roborock S8+ on the basement level. The main living level is the most demanding as it houses the kitchen, dining room, and living room which are the most used and overall messiest.
The Dreame L20 Ultra kills it! The swinging mop arm is what first attracted me to the L20 Ultra, but the ability to remove the mop pads automatically sealed the deal. It works as advertised, and does a better job than the competition. Suction is strong, I know it is a lot, but I can only say it picks up everything.
My favourite feature is the ability to set it to vacuum an area 3X in one run. It will clean one direction, then perpendicular to the first way, then back the first way again. This is great for messier spaces. Another feature I like is the ability to set the orientation of the final clean. This allows you to leave perfect freshly vacuumed stripes on carpets and rugs. It looks like a freshly mowed lawn when the robot is done.
There are some downsides. The app is a bit laggier than the competition. It is clear it is pulling data from the vacuum and that slows the whole process down. Another big annoying thing is I can’t change the perimeters of an ‘area’ or ‘custom’ clean after it has started without restarting. With my X1 Omni if I notice the suction level is a little too low I can change it while the vacuum continues cleaning. On the L20 Ultra I need to restart the entire task.
I have owned the Ecovacs X2 Omni and ultimately returned it. The navigation and obstacle avoidance is terrible! It will improve, but as of January 2024 it was still awful compared to every other vacuum on the market.
Dreams is a great brand that hasn’t been popular in North American. I see it as a premium Ecovacs.
