I bought two because I had two dead spots I needed to fix. Included is a sheet showing the steps necessary to set up. I plugged the unit into the wall and began the first step. Got to step 2 and had to unplug to find the MAC address on the back. Now start over. Set my Macbook to connect to the new device. My browser popped up and I had a webpage to pick my network and set the password. I was unable to select any 5G networks. Only the 2.4 was available. I set up the network name and password and after it restarted I was on the internet.
However.
I could not connect to it to make any changes or see configurations. Also I could not connect to the device through the LAN connector. This would make it much faster than acting as a repeater for an already poor wireless signal. It seems the IP address is permanently set. So when I tried configuring two devices the only thing different was the name. While they both worked, they both had the same IP address and that should never exist on a network.
I tried resetting with the reset switch but still never got to any screen that allowed manual setup. The device would never respond to the IP address.
So what did I learn?
1. If you want a device just to boost a wireless signal to a further distance, this might be it.
2. It seems to only work on 2.4G speeds and not 5G. I cannot access the config screen. After connecting to the device my Network software says the device has a new IP address via DHCP.
3. Two devices may not be necessary as it throws the signal for a long distance, but might conflict with 13 of my neighbours.
4. My phone works better in the dead spot for browsing. Maybe I can turn on WIFI calling now.
5. What I would like to have access to if I knew how. Signal Channel, IP address, 5G transmission, LAN connection.
What I still need to try. I have a software activation button in my router for WPS. I will try that and attempt the WPS setup. Maybe after that I will get access to the configs. I will likely return the second device as it seems foolish to have two that only partially work.
Will update once I learn anything new
