My Ford 2019 Escape requires the phone tethered to the head unit USB port to use android auto. I previously used a Samsung S21 and recently switched to Google Pixel 7 Pro both worked great. I have always wondering why Ford and others never implemented android auto to use Bluetooth, considering it uses Bluetooth to link the phone to the head unit already. It's not always convenient to plug in the USB cable constantly, and even when you do, a bump or a jolt drop the USB connection at times as dust builds up on the phone connector.
Anyways, after some research of wireless android auto dongles, the AA Wireless dongle came up in the top ten devices and did note that some have other unique features which were not in my requirements. In a nutshell, the wireless dongle had to work the same as if I plugged in directly to the head unit USB port. In addition, had to be easy to set up, work without dropouts or prone to external interference.
Setup is really easy, assuming you already have your phone setup for android auto and working, you plug in the AA Wireless dongle into the USB port, install the AA Wireless app and follow to app to complete the setup.
After that, every time you get in your vehicle, everything automatically connects, as long as the phone is in the vehicle with you. Doesn't matter if it is in your pocket, sitting on a seat or console, you are set to go.
I see no difference connected wirelessly or plugged in directly, the head unit screen response is great and all my android auto enable apps work fine on the screen. Overall, the AA Wireless dongle works great and have no issues with it, good value for the price.
