3.0 out of 5 starsExcellent clock--except for wifi
Reviewed in Canada on October 14, 2023
This was a great alarm clock--except for the wifi constantly seeking to connect to something, anything... because there is no way to turn off/diasble it's wifi. As such, this is a security concern for our router, and kids room, as we do not trust the 'unknown' manufacturer's level of honest &/or hackers that hack just to cause issues.
If one can overlook the wifi security flaw (we can't and are returning to find one without wifi), it is a stellar alarm. The sunrise feature works as advertised, is bright, increases in intensity until alarm, and one can see the time while light is on.
Speaker is fairly decent, sound/light options are good, and fm tuner picks up stations clearly (although locks in on static stations too for some reason).
Alarm buttons spaced well.
Sunset ability works well and turns off after preset time.
Update (Oct 16, 2023, response from seller re: wifi): "We'd like to assure you that our alarm clock itself does not emit any network signals. All commands are executed only after your direct input. Your security and peace of mind are important to us. Please note that the WiFi symbol will be off after 20 minutes when the clock is not connected to the app. Only when you long-press the Snooze button for 5-10 seconds will wake it up again. Therefore, you can totally disable the WiFi connection of the clock."
I believe seller's response is incorrect &/or dishonest (whether intentionally or not, I do not know).
While it may not "emit any network signals" it DOES SEEK A WIFI/WIRELESS connection--intermittently and ongoing. There are many wifi scanning apps available, & using one, I found that when the set alarm would activate, in the morning, the clock would seek a wifi connection. I also tested at random times, only to find I could see the clock looking for a connection, meaning "Only when you long-press the Snooze button for 5-10 seconds will wake it up again."... is not true. This is a security concern, as anyone can then connect to the clock via the ecozy app (or other methods) directly--which opens the door to further issues.
Thus, "you can totally disable the WiFi connection of the clock." is a lie!
Somewhere along the manufacturing/selling line, someone installed software on the hardware to act this way--which is a huge privacy concern!
