3.0 out of 5 starsVL49 (mono) is OK, but Ulanzi makes another better light for much less so I wouldn't buy it again.

The Ulanzi VL49 is OK. Its a small continuous light with 1 color and 5 brightness levels. Its light and has decent brightness for what it is - a small mono point light source for $35 CDN. Its biggest problem is that Ulanzi makes a much better light for a fraction of the price. Had I known that earlier, I wouldn't have bothered with this VL49. [Update: the U=Bright is now $37, so its not the screaming deal it was before, but it has more features for about the same price. The VL49 isn't bad, its just that Ulanzi makes a newer, better product for a similar price.]
Last week I picked that up the Ulanzi U-Bright for $9.95 CDN here on amazon.ca. Its the same size (see photos) and for me, a much better buy. The U-Bright has multiple color temp settings, brightness, comes with a magnetic diffuser and gels, as well as an MT-14 mini tripod. I could have bought 3 of them for less an one of these ones. So while the VL49 is ok for what it is, you can get a better light for less - you have options.
