I'm tempted to call this "Frustration Peanut Butter Stuff" because I originally wanted 1 kg of crunchy peanut butter - this was not. After Halloween 2021, I tried to order 1 kg of Kraft Crunchy Peanut Butter. After a period where no peanut butter was forthcoming, the description changed to say that it could be had only in a 2 kg jar. That may be good for a family with children. For one person, not so much. I ordered. More time passed, and early in December the shipment of "Crumchy" evaporated in transit, *Poof* (maybe Elvis was hungry?). I did receive a refund, although I never did learn who got my order. When I tried to re-order, "Crunchy" was off the menu, leaving "Smooth" in a 2 kg jar as the only choice from Kraft. It was selling at quite a low price. There were other, unknown brands selling 250 gram or 500 gram sizes of peanut butter for absurd prices. So I took the path of least resistance and ordered this. It arrived at the end of December 2021. First impression was "that's a LOT of PB - it's a "2 hand" jar. Second point was that the expiry date was May 2022. OK if for a family. The container was intact, the seal was intact. It smelled like peanut butter should, and the flavour was definitely peanuty, with no odd "hints" or aftertaste. The texture was very smooth and uniform. However, it was dense - really quite thick - and did not spread as easily as my memory suggested it should That was not a deal-breaker. I used this through the winter on toast, crackers, and put a dollop in breakfast smoothies, which I make in the blender with 1 cup of milk and an almost over-ripe frozen banana. All fine and no surprises. April came, and the mixture began to get very stiff and harder to spread. The taste had lost "freshness." By the end of May, I'd used a bit more than half the jar. What remained was stiff to the point of not spreading, and the flavour was getting stale. The expiry date was May 16, 2022, and the timing on that was right on the mark. This was a decent quality product, with good although not outstanding flavour, and a short shelf life. I made up some "bird balls with the remainder of the jar, and froze them. Along about October, they're a popular addition to my bird feeder - we usually have had snow for 3-4 weeks by that time. This isn't superb, nor is it bad. It's average, and the short expiry date probably wouldn't be an issue for a household with several people. The only real surprise was the stiffness of the 40% of the remaining contents at the end of May. I don't recall having had peanut butter stiffen up like that. It wasn't dreadful, just odd. That said, this is quite a decent product with no "off" tastes, and it was a good value when purchased. Perhaps "Crunchy" style will again be available soon and - I hope - 1 kg jars.
