Top critical review
1.0 out of 5 starsFor Apple Users: Requires Computer-Savviness Level 4

Downloaded the driver from the site (of course no one has a CD-rom drive, if you did you probably would also have an ethernet port). Clicked install. Says it installs, restart, nothing. It doesn't work, it's not plug and play, the manufacturer has no idea what's going on, neither does Apple. Apple never should have gotten rid of ethernet ports.
^^My first review. Then I leveled up! The issue is that the company ASIX is not an Apple "identified developer". So if you do not have System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> "Allow Apps downloaded from Anywhere" checked, the installation fails with no error message. Actually it claims it succeeds, but it won't work. So you need to get this setting checked, BUT, you won't see it if you haven't disabled "Gatekeeper". There are instructions online to do this. These instructions did not work for me until I restarted the computer. Then I installed the driver again, and it warned me I needed to allow it in security settings. Went to security, didn't see it, restarted the machine again. There it was! Hit allow, and I now have ethernet through this adapter. Now, clearly, if you only have Computer-Savviness Level 3, you won't be able to get it to work. In this case, buy the Apple dongle for twice the price. I am betting it has an apple driver and it will just work plug and play. Otherwise, you must acquire the skills for Level 4.
I am still giving this a 1/5 star review because it shouldn't take the user this long to get it working. Perhaps ASIX should see about getting recognized as an identified developer by Apple. You shouldn't have to hack your way through your machine just to get a stupid dongle to work.
