Amazon needs focus group input for full potential. Software has glitches & weird design
PROS:- Screen exceeded my expectation (especially great for movies & photos)- Home page is a nice dashboard (great quick view & great for multi-person home)- Both touch screen & voice control is nice- Can say "Alexa Display Off" -- this saves energy (With Cam Cover closed, display remains off during daytime. Say any other command to turn display back on (like Alexa Home)- Speakers are acceptable (Echo Dot sounds better) -- can pair with Echo Dot/Studio if you desire better sound- Great WiFi access; easy installationCONS:- Amazon Photos app in Google Play Store & Amazon Store is different. Google Play Store's app is really bad. This needs to be resolved (app should be the same in both stores or remove app from Google Play Store) ** Fix this ASAP **- I have lots of photos organized by folders. To use properly on Echo Show 15, I needed to create a Smart Album for certain selected photo folders. Easiest way to do this, is to use the web version of Amazon Photos & Amazon Drive (don't use the apps; they are too buggy)- unable to change list of the "Favorite Photos" Widget (In widget, I selected 8 photos as favorites - how can I unselect these photos & select other favorite photos.)RECOMMENDED IMPROVEMENTS:- create an easy way for users to request new widgets to be developed, recommend improvements, report defects, volunteer to be alpha testers,...- redesign window layouts to make full use of the screen (e.g., instead of one row sliding horizontally, display multi-rows that can be scrolled vertcally).- stop timeout while I'm in settings (just let me decide when I want to go home)- make it easier to assign Smart Albums to photo folders- permit user to select speed of slideshow (currently only 3 choices in seconds: 5, 10, 15 -- permit user specified timer)- provide user option to request all FULL SCREEN photos to be shown with no text and no clock -- permit user to say "Alexa, show info" (photo filename & small clock shown till user says "Alexa info off")-- ehance Alexa (add screen action commands like Alexa Scroll, Alexa Scroll Back, Alexa Show <widget name> to show full screen version of the widget,...- I started playing a music playlist and then I went HOME: show the currently playing artist, title in the "Music & Audio" widget window (make the widgets' window dynamic)- Enhance the Smart Home widget (especially when viewed as full screen -- display a complete Smart Home Dashboard with dynamic status of each smart device and sliding line to set a bulbs dimming/brightness. Ideally permit user customization of the dashboard. WOW Factor here!! Also make small window dynamic on home page (e.g., show alarm notifications/status)- stop Amazon ads (e.g., when Spotify is defaulted -- show only once when Spotify was set to be default)- permit user to specify a slideshow's photo order (e.g., by filename alphabetical order, by date,...)- permit Google Chrome to be used instead of Silk- Regarding related "Amazon Photos app": when setting photo order alphabetically, set this as the new default order (do not automatically go back to date default)

Update: As of Oct. 31, Alexa will no longer work with IFTT. I wish I’d known this before I purchased. Now I’ll have to look to another home hub to control automations. Not sure how long Alexa will last in my house now, but I expect to replace it now.

***

I purchased this primarily to set up smart home options as a hub. It’s a great help for keeping track of all my food, family activities, chores, shopping lists, etc…and can be used with smart lighting, cleaning robots, IFTTT automations, etc. Even my home security has some functionality with it! Too bad a lot of options aren’t readily available in Canada.

I started with the Echo 8, and I love that one. But I wanted something larger for my bedroom to use as a TV plus with the Alexa features. This is it. I took advantage of the monthly payment plan and the boxing week deal so it wasnt full price. I find that when I put it together, it worked better for me to not have other devices on my wifi, so I shut off my computer and phone, as I find that the download updates etc work better (and yes, my wifi is strong enough but this is finicky). Once it got going I had issues with the widgets, I struggled getting them to stay on the home screen and then I just gave up. I then noticed I got up in the morning and they were there as they should be so, not sure if you just have to give up to get those on. I really love this device and all the bells and whistles the app has. I use it for routines, lights, scheduling, TV shows - it really is sweet. Because I mounted it on the wall, I do want you to know it does have a wall mount that comes with it. I did purchase one separately that can swivel, but thats because I thought I had to, and you do not. It has a bracket that you screw into the wall and then hang it on there. works great. I will return the other swivel. I have moved the Echo show 8 to the kitchen I find the speakers in the 8 fantastic for music, and the 15 has great sound but the bass in the 8 is excellent for music. Overall, Im delighted and in love with the Alexa app.

Good for (video) entertainment in the Kitchen and keeping up with my shows while cooking, in addition to all the stuff your normal Alexa speaker does. I have it synced to my Amazon Photos™ acct and my work Calendar so it's good for annoucing my upcoming (remote) meetings.

The things that are less-awesome about it are as follows:
1. You absolutely NEED to buy a stand for it. The good ones aren't cheap. Mine was 50 bucks (see pic). If you dont have a stand, the thing slides all over the place and falls quite readily. Not good.
2. I think there was a software update recently, making it harder for you to use the touch screen while in Netflix, Prime or Disney Plus. They're forcing the use of a "virtual" remote - the experience is borderline bizarre it's so bad.
3. Random bugs, like my calendar items are duplicated and get annouced out loud, twice. Every. Time. Another bug is that my Prime video content would start/play out-of-the-blue, scaring the living heck out of me.
4. The touchscreen functionality - don't expect iPad-level latency. It's a little clumsy and slow.

Despite these minor issues, I'm really glad I have this thing. I love seeing my personal photos (synced to Amazon Photos) and news items, along with functional things like calendar and weather. These things, plus streaming video and bringing the entertainment into the kitchen is the best part of having it imho.

You can hang this up as a picture on your wall, or find the perfect mount for your dresser, or under your cabinet in your kitchen. This is an extremely useful and versatile tool. I really liked it, just realized that it’s extremely big. If you’re looking for something smaller, go with something smaller Like the echo 10, or echo eight or five. A pretty expensive alarm clock for me. Lol but it is super cool. It was a bit hard to set up at first, but just watch a few YouTube videos, and you will be navigating through it in no time.

I was always intrigued by the Echow Show 15 but thought I'd never really use it. I've had it for nearly a year now and it's surprisingly useful. It's great in the kitchen as a photo frame and TV. I use it when I'm eating in the kitchen to watch shows. Also when I enter/exit the house it's great to use to control my lights and other devices. It also doesn't look like a cheap obnoxious digital photo frame. I just wish they made one slightly bigger with higher resolution.

This is my ADHD secret to actually staying on task and making it to my appointments. I love that it connects with the alexas I have in various rooms of the house and the "drop in" feature with the camera is great to start giving my oldest a bit of freedom of being home alone with still being able to check in.
