The Housemaid: An absolutely addictive psychological thriller with a jaw-dropping twist Kindle Edition

“Welcome to the family,” Nina Winchester says as I shake her elegant, manicured hand. I smile politely, gazing around the marble hallway. Working here is my last chance to start fresh. I can pretend to be whoever I like. But I’ll soon learn that the Winchesters’ secrets are far more dangerous than my own…

Every day I clean the Winchesters’ beautiful house top to bottom. I collect their daughter from school. And I cook a delicious meal for the whole family before heading up to eat alone in my tiny room on the top floor.

I try to ignore how Nina makes a mess just to watch me clean it up. How she tells strange lies about her own daughter. And how her husband Andrew seems more broken every day. But as I look into Andrew’s handsome brown eyes, so full of pain, it’s hard not to imagine what it would be like to live Nina’s life. The walk-in closet, the fancy car, the perfect husband.

I only try on one of Nina’s pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it’s like. But she soon finds out… and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside,
it’s far too late.

But I reassure myself:
the Winchesters don’t know who I really am.

They don’t know what I’m capable of

This is the perfect book for a plane ride or a short vaca. Fast-paced, great plot, but the writing isn’t very good.
In my opinion, the best books have both, engaging plot and excellent writing. Nevertheless, I did enjoy it.

Novel was great but condition was completely gimpy. Pages stuck together, as if it wasn’t trimmed properly. I sucked it up because I desperately needed to read the book in time for my book club but shame on you Amazon, I expect better quality!

"The Housemaid" by Freida McFadden is an exceptional thriller that I'll be recommending for years to come. McFadden's skillful writing weaves mystery and psychological terror into a brilliant narrative, making it one of the standout novels of 2022.

This book is incredibly addictive, keeping you turning pages late into the night. The plot is full of surprising revelations that continually challenge your expectations. Set in New York, the story feels close to home for me, adding to its appeal.

Without giving away any spoilers, I can confidently say that this is a must-read. The jaw-dropping moments and unexpected twists make for a thrilling ride. The satisfying ending caught me off guard—in the best way possible.

I give "The Housemaid" a perfect 5/5 rating. It's a masterpiece that stands out among the novels I've read. McFadden's unique storytelling and talent for suspense have made me a fan, and I eagerly anticipate her future works. This book is a rollercoaster of excitement from start to finish, and I can't wait to dive into more of McFadden's captivating stories.

I didn’t have high hopes for this series because usually when something is all over social media, it turns out to be bad lol (in my experience) ESPECIALLY BOOKS…
However, my daughter told me it was actually good so I decided to give it a shot. I read a LOT. Usually Mystery/Thriller/horror/and some historical romance and out of the thousands of books I’ve read, this is probably one of my favorite series ever!

The beginning was kind of slow (as with most books) but I was hooked immediately! I finished this one in a day then read the second one the next day! Just started the third one!

I really love the writing style. It’s kind of like a diary style/first person. In this one you start with the housemaid’s point of view then once most of her story is told, it switches to Her boss, Nina’s point of view. Then back to the housemaid etc.

I’ll be completely honest, usually I can figure out a mystery/thriller easily… not with these books! I won’t spoil it, but boy! These plot twists are really well done. The author puts teeny-tiny little hints here and there in the book, but you don’t realize it until the end!

Just wait until you get to the “100 strands of hair” part lol sheesh! Definitely was not expecting it!

All this to say, you should 100% buy this whole series! 5/5 stars!

When Millie is hired by Nina Winchester as their new maid, she cannot believe her luck of finally sleeping on a bed, instead of her car. The luxurious mansion like house feels like a dream to her. She does her best to cook, clean and pick their daughter Cece from school.

She finds herself attracted to the devastatingly handsome, kind and loving Mr. Andrew Winchester. Her heart goes out to him for putting up with his moody good for nothing wife Nina. She cannot imagine what he sees in her or why he puts up with all her melodrama.

When she is assigned the attic as her room, something seems wrong, but she can't put a finger on it. Until she realises that the door has a lock only from the outside.
A psychological thriller that has everything to keep the reader on the edge of the seat. The plot unfolds slowly in the first half. With tiny cliffhangers chapter after chapter. Mainly seems like a sweet love story with a dash of mystery. It almost felt like the tone was linear and easily predictable. Except it wasn't.

The second half of the book takes a dramatic twist and had me turning pages continuously. The characters minimal yet complex strengthen the story. With engaging conversations, dramatic conflicts in making, this tale makes for a compelling read. Themes touched upon are love, childhood trauma, insecurities, mystery, suspense and crime.

The ending comes together just as impressively. All in all, those who love a gripping psychological thriller must read this one. This is the first of this trilogy, I can't wait to read the other two.
