I have tried just about every intelligent "lighting" brand under the sun. I won't name them because it's not about them but as far as I am concerned, yes Hue charges a premium but it works E-VE-RY-TI-ME. I wouldn't say I saved down the line but I'm happy to pay a slight premium and an expensive starting kit, for something that NEVER let me down and never required that I "resync" with my apps and whatnot.
