Can the Metapen D1 replace my Apple Pencil? Absolutely not!
When I received the Metapen D1, it was neatly packaged in a box similar to the Apple Pencil's packaging and came with a short USB-C cable.
The Metapen D1 is affordable and has tilt sensitivity. I appreciated the dedicated app that allows me to customize my preferences, and I found the pencil comfortable to hold with a nice grip for a smooth drawing experience. Another handy feature is the app's ability to locate the stylus if it goes missing.
However, the lack of pressure sensitivity is a dealbreaker for me as an artist. Additionally, the battery doesn't last as long as the Apple Pencil, with an approximate 4-5 hour difference. Charging it requires a cable, which feels a bit dated compared to the Apple Pencil's magnetic charging.
While the Metapen D1 doesn't have the premium feel of the Apple Pencil, it is very comfortable to hold. The absence of pressure sensitivity makes it feel limited, but I think it would be great for vector drawing with even lines, consistent pressure, and uniform opacity. Overall, I wouldn't recommend the Metapen D1 for serious artists, but it could be a good option for vector artists, for use in writing apps, or as a mouse replacement.
