Extremely well researched and clearly written, it reads like a Pulitzer-level history book written like a story. Posner is a Catholic and expert on Nazism and the illegal escapes of many of them to South America. When investigating Argentinian papers related to these war-time criminals, Posner realized just how involved the Church was. It is a very ugly history but one needed to be written if one is to appreciate how much the Church has improved and how much more it has to go.
