This is my first heart rate monitor and so I didn't realize the Amazon description of the monitor meant I'd need a Garmin watch or computer as well, and couldn't just connect directly to my phone using the Garmin Connect app. Seems like Garmin wants you to buy both the HRM-Dual and another one of their devices.

However, internet to the rescue and I found 2 apps that will connect with it. Polar and Fitiv. I'm still on the free versions so far, but I've heard you can continue to use the free versions. Both of them though present the results nicely enough that I'll consider buying a subscription to one of them. I'm still testing them out so will have a better idea which style/which app I like better. Both are good though.

As for the HRM-Dual itself, it connected to both apps with no difficulty. It didn't connect to Strava though despite all the trouble-shooting and me getting a trial subscription to Strava. Maybe at some point I'll figure it out, but if not, then no big deal. The monitor did connect automatically to my Health app (iPhone 14). I can't comment on battery life as I've not had it long enough.

The strap seems sturdy, and it has stayed in place despite some vigorous exertions. I thought it had slipped down while cycling but it hadn't moved at all. It was so comfortable I didn't even know it was still in place. I kept pressing my fingers to just below my sternum where the monitor is located to double-check it was still in place.

So far, quite happy with it and I don't feel any need to buy another device just to use the HRM-Dual.
