No where does it say that this is plastic. It would take very little to crack it. Was very difficult to install. You have to insert a round pipe with a screw hole in it into a round hole on the fastener and then put the screw through it. Just touching the round pipe with the screw will cause the screw hole to go out of alignment. Ridiculous! Why didn't they use a square pipe with the round screwhole in it and insert the square pipe into a square hole so it was locked in place and couldn't lose alignment?
I ended up only getting 2 brackets on then gave up.

I'm going to give this another star. It is made of plastic but I think it would be fairly hard to crack. The issue with installing the basket is another thing. I finally went to the hardware store and bought #8 2 1/2 inch bolts, nuts and wing nuts. I inserted the round pipe with the screw hold into the holder and secured into the right position with a little crazy glue. The bolts worked great with the wing nuts etc and tightened well. Will have to see if they shake loose very much over time. This method will also make it easy for me to quickly remove the basket when I need to fold my ebike in half to get it into my van when camping. Took minutes to attach with the bolts, nuts and wingnuts as well. I might **** when I see how this works.
