When my Vizio crapped out after 7 years, it was time and I had my eye on TCL for quite a while. I was disappointed that the budget midrange model didn't come with local dimming zones, but I will go on record as saying that it is not an issue, and even a little bit of a feature at times.

Three issues. All 3 of these combined for an annoying problem 😂

1 - The picture tuning out of the box is pretty abysmal.... Smart HDR is the closest I found to what I want and tweaked from there.. Took a coupe of days, but once you find it the picture is incredible.
2 - It doesn't handle Dolby Vision well... (Firesticks.. Ect) and you don't have enough options to play with. I prefer the Google TV interface... But that leads me to the 3rd issue

3 - Not enough memory. Due to... Stuff... I run a VPN through my viewing devices, and this TV doesn't have enough memory to keep a VPN running in the background (or at least that's how I interpret the problem). They keep disconnecting after a few seconds/minutes of connection.

For anybody Googling this problem, I have found Private Internet Access seems to stay connected well, albiet with a few restarts here and there.

Those are my 3 issues, but other than that it is a fantastic TV and well worth the money you spend. If you can afford more, go with the Q7, but I'm a single Dad with a mortgage and child support. Budget is key.

5 stars.
