I have very sensitive skin and struggle with many products triggering itchy rashes, hives, and scaly skin. I decided to try several products by Attitude after reading about them on the Environmental Working Group (EWG) app.
I realize this particular shampoo is marketed toward children, but I find that I get best results with products intended for children as they tend to be more gentle and have a lighter fragrance than products for adults.
At first, I really liked this shampoo. I liked how low-odor it was. However, after six months of continuous use I developed severe irritation. I suffered with it for weeks, not understanding why my scalp was so itchy, inflamed, and even burning painfully at times. It was by far the worst reaction I’ve ever had to any shampoo, including ones full of fragrances and harsh ingredients.
It was my partner who eventually put two and two together and suggested that I stop using the shampoo and try to calm my scalp with a regular brand of shampoo containing zinc pyrithione. I figured that would only make things worse, since the replacement had tons of fragrance in it. However, within 24 hours the itching and burning stopped and three days later all the pustules that had developed on my scalp were scabbing over and healing. (It’s now two weeks later, and my scalp is completely healed.)
I never thought that a “natural” product like this could provoke such an extreme reaction. If you have sensitive, reactive skin like mine, I would suggest starting with a small bottle first to see if you react. I wish I had because now I’m stuck with several large bottles of Attitude shampoo and conditioner I can’t use (since I tried several types before realizing my allergy was to some ingredient common to all their shampoo products, and possibly conditioner). I wanted to love this product but it just didn’t work out.
