Wasnt expecting this....
So I bought this unit sometime last year .. really just used kitchen garbage bags and since it was winter.. put it out on the balcony to freeze etc.... no smell.. then spring came and it was starting to get warm out there.. even though its has a good seal etc.... flies etc will find it etc.. so i brought it in and decided to buy these cartridges.. wondering how long one cartridge would last me since i hav 2 cats.. one cat loves to constantly drink out of her water fountain i bought from Amazon.. the other one does not like water at all... so i have to buy wet cat food from Amazon and mixed water with it as well.. so they do use the cat litter box a lot.. So I put the first cartridge in on May 27th and i put the first waste into it that day.. and so on and so on... so when a bag would get filled.. instead of tying the top of the bag into a big knot... wasting plastic etc.. i cut strips of black duct tape ( bought from Amazon ) and i used that to close it off after i cut the bag off using the cutting tool at the top of the cat litter waste disposal unit.. then i would use a thin strip of black duct tape to close that end off as well.. then i would continue to do this.. saving on the plastic etc.. and i finally reached the last part of the plastic and filled it up on July 4th.. so if i am counting right.. May 27th to July 4th... that is 39 days the first of 4 cartridges lasted me .. so i have 3 more left.. if this continues on.. and my cats getting more than enough water to drink.. I am good till sometime in early November .. so about 5 months out of 4 cartridges .. but even if you get 4 months.. that is well worth what you are paying for this product.. when you tie the bag and if you lift it to your nose.. you have to get your nose right up to the bag to smell the cat waste... so thats not bad considering cat urine stinks.. so nothing is airtight so what i do is when i am finished emptying the cat litter into the waste unit.. i close it up tight and then i pour a little bit of baking soda inside the top of the opening of the waste unit .. it doesnt fall in but just sits there absorbing any stink that is escaping from the opening of the unit.. and when i pour the cat waste in the top again.. the baking soda falls inside with the waste to help absorb the stink in there.. so i make sure to use duct tape to seal the top and bottom of the bags so less of the plastic bag is being used to tie into knots to seal it etc.. just buy the cheap duct tape.. its all you need.... owners of this unit know you have to watch how you pull the bag out of the unit at the top.. you can reach in and scrunch the cat litter closer together and pull it out if that helps.. i found another way I can fill the bag where it feels like it weighs at least 10 lbs of waste and not tear the bag getting it out.. but i will let you figure that one out on your own.. so the photo of that bag being tape to the side of the open is because that is the end of the bag in the cartridge.. i taped it so it would stay open so i could fill it up etc.. so there you have it.. 39 days to fill the first cartridge.. and having this unit.. it makes it so easy to empty your cat litter box.. i use to do it every 3 days using the old grocery bags.... now i do it everyday in a matter of minutes..
