Disappointment with the Blink Sync Module 2
I must say that my experience with the Blink Sync Module 2 has been quite disappointing. I had high hopes for this product, but it doesn't meet my expectations.Negative Points:1. Complicated Setup: The initial setup was a real headache. The instructions are not clear, and I had to spend a lot of time searching for solutions online.2. Unstable Connection: The module often has connection issues. It regularly disconnects from the network, which makes using the Blink cameras very frustrating.3. Limited Storage: The local storage is limited and does not allow saving many videos. This forces you to subscribe to a cloud service, which increases the costs.4. Slow Performance: The module is slow to respond to commands and updates. This creates annoying delays in monitoring and accessing recorded videos. In Conclusion:The Blink Sync Module 2 does not live up to what it promises. Between the complicated setup, connection problems, and poor customer service, I cannot recommend this product. I would have preferred to invest in a more reliable and efficient solution.

With this device, I can store my videos in a USB stick. They do take a little longer to play but it’s not that long. Now I don’t need a subscription to the cloud but can get it later if I need to. It is so easy to set up and it just works 👍🏼 I had to cover the lights because they’re too bright to have besides my bedside table, but this is no big deal. You can see the black USB stick on the right.

BUT.... I hoped the viewing delay would go away after the free cloud subscription ended bust sadly it didn't with the module....it is for security and you kind of need to see instantly who is at the door wether home or not! There is a delay in notifications and then a LONG delay to be able to view the new notification. It was a fair price but with this and the doorbell camera however.....disappointing none the less.
Picture quality no complaint.

When I purchased the Blink security system in 2020 with the original sync module everything worked perfectly - 5 stars. I had originally purchased a two camera system and worked my way up to 5 cameras. I was very impressed with how the system worked with plenty of storage in the cloud for my needs, and no subscription required. It worked exactly as it was advertised. In 2022 Blink moved to a subscription based model. Some of my cameras were "grandfathered in" under the "no subscription required" and some were not. I ordered a sync module 2 and a usb storage to get around the subscription requirement for the newer, HD cameras. I ended up purchasing a sync module 2 and a usb storage device in order to avoid having to start paying a subscription to maintain my original level of functionality. After much frustration and effort, I finally got the sync module 2 and all cameras to operate, and store data, as per Blink's instructions. It wasn't long before my HD usb cameras stopped storing data on the usb. I receive notices via the app that they detect motion, but they are no longer storing the data on the usb. The system is now very unreliable and seems to be intentionally geared towards forcing owners into the subscription plans with cloud based storage and notifications. I was initially very pleased with this system, but I have become very disappointed. What company changes how a system functions and forces users into a subscription plan after the fact???!!! Prior to the subscription based model, my system worked perfectly. Had I know Blink was moving to this model, I would have NEVER purchased this system. The new model of service is nothing but a money grab.

I received a blink 4 outdoor camera for my birthday. I was all excited and realized very quickly that I needed a sync module for it to work. I'm not really all that tech savvy. So for me to get it up and going is saying a lot. It's fairly simple to do. The night vision itself is fantastic. Black and white but that's all good. It doesn't go off with bugs but does pick up the neighborhood cats. I've had no issues with the sync module itself which is what I'm doing the review on. I plug it in and that's all I've done. I have two blink 4 cameras for my front yard and back yard and both are connected to the one sync module. The only negative I can say is that you cannot see both live views at the same time. It's one or the other. I can bring the blink app on my phone and see both cameras but only one can be viewed at a time. There's also a bit of a lag. Maybe 5 to 10 seconds on each camera. I'm sure a psychotic serial killer cannot possibly hack me up in tiny pieces in that time frame so I feel relatively safe. I do like if there's a person or movement it can decipher the difference. The phone will alert me if there's movement and at any time I can see live views. The plans were a bit confusing to me. You do get a trial for each camera which is nice. But after that you have to figure out which plan you want. Otherwise if you don't pay for it you only get very limited service
that for me isn't going to work or give me the peace of mind I need which is why I wanted a system in the first place. Overall, I think it's worth it. It's great for what you get and not too expensive. I don't need a professional to install it and don't need to put a bunch of wires and holes in my house. It's easy to use as long as you have wifi. No real issues with it. Definitely recommend.

This is a general review of Blink camera system and Sync module itself.
After researching the available products, ring, wyze, etc. I selected Blink system for setting up my video perimeter. It had all the right features at a very affordable overall price.

When you purchase their cameras they give a month of cloud service so you can try things out. Their cloud pricing is also very affordable and competitive.

At the same time, Blink offers this thing called a Sync module in case you don't want to pay for cloud subscription. Initially I couldn't find documentation of how / what this thing does so what I'm writing here is based on experimentation.

At a high level, Sync module offers a subset of feature of the cloud and is basically designed to do one thing: Record and store videos when a camera detects motion. Other features such as periodic taking pictures and storing is not not supported.

Here's how things work with Blink app. It organizes the various cameras (outdoor, mini, doorbell, etc.) into what they call a "System". A "System" is pretty much a way to group things together. A group of cameras have the same on/off schedule, can be armed/disarmed at the same time, show up on the app on the same page, etc. Most importantly, a group of cameras share a single Sync module.
For example, let's say you want to use blink to monitor two separate physical locations. If you are using the cloud, you can create a single group and add all the cameras to it even though they are located apart. But, if you don't want to use the cloud and instead use a sync module, you'll need to create two "Systems", each with its own Sync Module.

Once you decide how to group your cameras, adding them to the account / app is easy. First, you add the Sync Module, then each individual camera. The process is very quick. I've done it a dozen times already and it's gone without a problem every time.

Once created, you can arm the group for motion detection and recording. Every time motion is detected, the camera saves the video footage to the Sync Module. Once saved, you can look at saved video clips from the app, just like you'd if you had the cloud subscription.
I've been very happy with the functionality of the Syn Module. I've recommended it to a bunch of other people and can say that so far, I know about 5 households that bought the Sync Module + a bunch of cameras and been using them with success.
I've attached a few pictures of the app to show what you'll see if you setup a group and some of the adjustments available for an individual camera.
-------------------------------------------------------
The only problem i've had so far is one of the Sync Modules I purchased had a really strange issue. Everything worked except that it wouldn't actually record video to the USB. Camera would detect motion, send a notification, but no recorded video would show up. I did all the troubleshooting steps, called their support a few times, and unfortunately it wasn't solved. Also, there are no troubleshooting indicators available to figure out what was going on. Things either work or don't. I wish they provided some logs or other indicators to the user.

At the end, I returned the thing, bought a new one, and it worked. So my conclusion is that specific Sync Module had an issue (hardware / software / who knows).

5.0 out of 5 stars NSA devices
Reviewed in the United States on December 11, 2022

NSA devices 2.0 Works great. Added 2- more gen 2 cameras and nearly completes the outside. No subscription setup using a thumb drive for memory storage.

UPDATE: We have gen 1 and gen 2 cameras with 2 different sync modules to accommodate them- Called NSA 1 and NSA 2. (not our idea). This has been an arduous journey to troubleshoot the NEW Blink Sync Module 2 to work without a subscription. 3-months of trying different configurations/setups with USB drive. Not to bore you with details and post a diary of my experiences, it turns out "MY ISSUE" why the Blink Sync 2 camera would not work with USB and without a subscription-was wifi related. After exhausting all potential fixes recommended by Blink and others posting online, we noticed that we started to have connectivity issues with other devices. Our modem gateway was ~6 years old and seemed to work well. Until -1-month ago, all was well. Then, we noticed wifi speed tests were appearing "throttled" by something??? And, was there an issue with "non Blink USB jump drive"???

So, giving up and letting go of my pride-thinking it wasn't connectivity issues, and as time allowed- I purchased a NEW Cable modem -Gateway to a newer, more powerful Arris. It was like a switch was flipped. Newer gen 2 Cameras work as designed and we dont have issues with the Blink cameras and saving clips to USB.

Just save a clip to usb when activated by motion. That's all we need with gen 2 cameras. Please note, take a look at everything. Maybe, it was a couple issues , because our Blink cameras did get a (~6-8 weeks ago- I think) firmware update recently - too. Blink may have found a fix and sent out a patch?? I read other reviewers very frustrated with their setups, and I experienced some if not all they described.

I doubted a fix was available and felt like we wasted hard earned money on 2cameras/sync module 2- almost gave up and was going to remove the gen 2 cameras and post a crappy review to Amazon. It works well now and will update on any changes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Blink Technical support is limited.
Reviewed in the United States on May 26, 2024

I want four sync module units. Two of them are up and running in my home. One of those says it is offline. Yet on that offline sync unit, the cameras are working and the notification when motion occurs is also working. I basically have a working security camera system in my front yard. And in my backyard. Yet my backyard sink unit tells me it is offline, When it is obviously not. Technical support has had me reboot. That unit multiple times and reenter my password. When I do, the sink unit tells me that my password is incorrect. It is not incorrect. Blink, technical support out of the Philippines tells me. I need to contact my internet carrier. There is nothing wrong with my internet. Blinks, inability to solve my problem makes me question blink products, and my investment in that system.
UPDATE
Asked Blink to send me a new one under warranty. They did. New one works great. Problem solved. Upgrade from 1 star to 4 stars because problem resolved. No 5 stars because of bad unit shipped to me.
