Makes it really easy to experiment with ice cream flavours.

Ice cream turns out nice and creamy, and doesn't get hard in the freezer.
Works well for ice cream with and without eggs.
Bowl fits in the freezer easily.
Easy to clean.
Metal finish looks good.
Multiple settings for ice cream, sorbet, and gelato.

My first try at using this type of ice cream maker and it rocked. The machine was extremely easy to use and produced a smooth, delicious ice cream. Highly recommend it

I bought this in February to anticipate my children's demand for ice cream during the summer and have been using it fairly constantly for the past six months, and I've found it to be a good ice cream maker.

Capacity is about two litres, and so far I've used it to make sorbets, gelato and lots of different ice creams- which have tended to turn out very well. The consistency of the finished product tends to be scoop-soft- the blade seems to get the right amount of air into the mix for ice cream and gelato- and I've had success adding nuts, whole and chopped fruit, and candies at the end of the cycle to get them evenly distributed throughout the ice cream. I keep the bowl in the freezer in our garage so it's constantly frozen and ready for use, otherwise it takes about 3-4 hours in a low-temperature storage freezer to get ready.

Transferring ice cream to storage containers is no problem and something that has become a less messy process the more I've used it and worked out what I'm doing. Cleaning can be done easily by washing it off in very hot water while it's still fresh. I wouldn't leave it to sit then come back to it later to clean it. I also would recommend using only wooden or plastic tools to remove ice cream from the bowl rather than metal.

It's not silent by any means when it's running, but it's not terribly noisy; not much worse than an extraction fan- I find it bearable to sit in the kitchen while it's running.

It loses a star for two reasons. Firstly the blade does not extend quite to the side of the bowl, so there's always a layer of extra-frozen hard ice cream on the bowl surface that's trickier to remove. I'm not sure that there are any ice cream makers that don't have this issue- at least ones that are as simple to use as this one- but it's something I can live with.

Secondly the way the lid attaches to the main unit isn't very secure and it occasionally comes loose during use, so the bowl, blade and lid all end up rotating. It doesn't happen every time and can be completely prevented by placing a heavy object on top while the machine is running, but I feel it would be better if the catch was a little more secure. Probably better though to have a spinning lid if it all seizes up than burning the motor out, not that it has ever seized up.

The instructions are clear and straightforward, and the recipe booklet has some interesting recipes in it as well as old favourites- the grapefruit and Prosecco sorbet is particularly good in my opinion- and it would take you a while to work through them all. The peanut butter cup ice cream disappears particularly quickly in our house! Even so I also bought
Ben & Jerry's Homemade Ice Cream & Dessert Book  and I'm glad I did as it teaches ice cream making theory as well as being a recipe book, so between that book and this ice cream maker I'm now formulating my own recipes and they're turning out very well.

The quality of ice cream this machine produces- following the included recipes- is every bit as good as the expensive, top-level ice creams you find in stores for a fraction of the cost; I've probably saved what I spent on buying the machine by making ice cream at home over the past six months, plus I know exactly what has gone into each batch and the kids- and us- have enjoyed desserts like lemon gelato, peach and honey, and Cranachan ice creams (honey, raspberries and toasted oatmeal caramel clusters) and watermelon sorbet that we wouldn't normally see on sale. The kids won't even touch Breyers any more, they prefer the home-made version.

In fact it makes me wonder. If I- as a relative novice- can easily make ice cream and sorbet that tastes like something you would be served as 'artisan-made' by a top restaurant using ingredients from large chain supermarkets, then what is going into commercially-produced ice cream? I don't think I really want to know.

My wife used a manual Donvier 1 quart bucket for years but she could not keep it rotating while the ice-cream froze. She would rest and start again, causing the ice cream to become hard as a brick (broke the handle twice) and very dense when we tried to eat it after coming out of the freezer later. This electric larger capacity bucket worked great using the same 1 liter recipe. Mixed continuously to freeze the ice cream in 8 minutes effortlessly. It was soft and spoonable into "drumstick" cones. After a day or longer in the deep freeze, it could be eaten easily, just like "over-aerated" store bought. That's amazing for chocolate ice cream. I recommend this machine BUT, we've only used it once so here's hoping it lasts a long time. Made 10 drumstick treats in a single batch. Motor did Not labour with the 1 liter batch.

We made some amazing ice cream and gelato according to the recipe book included. The recipes work as is though we added some coffee to the chocolate ice cream. To use the ingredients can be pricy, but worth the effort and better than any store bought- even Hagan Daz. We kept the drum part in the freezer all the time to keep it simple and be able to act when we felt like making ice desserts.

I already had an ice cream maker but it was poorly designed. The spout to pour in ingredients was too small to be useful. It sounded like a tank stuck in a trench. It was a pain to clean and a pain to store.
The Cuisinart ICE-70C ice cream maker is just the opposite. The exterior and interior is easy to clean. The mouth (pour spout) is large. While not silent it is much quieter than my last one.
The only part not easy to clean is the beater, I scrape as much ice cream off as I can, then when I've transferred all the rest of the ice cream to a container, I admit it, I lick it clean. You do what you have to do.

I find the beater works well, it scraps the side well except at the very bottom. I found a sturdy wooden spoon with a flat end works well to get the rest out of the freezing bowl. The freezing bowl is plastic on the outside and metal on the inside. Aluminum if I had to guess. Since it's plastic we need to be very careful not to drop it, especially when right out of the freezer, while I didn't drop it I would hate to see what would happen if it was dropped on a hard floor.
I'm really pleased with my purchase. Now I'm hoping for Vanilla pod prices to fall so I can make fresh vanilla ice cream again. Until then, salted caramel, Greek yogourt, strawberry, blackberry, orange creamsicle, raspberry sherbet and more.

Love this ice cream maker! Make a spot at the coldest part of your freezer (a shelf in ours above the compressor) so it freezes fast. We have only made a few batches so far but even after storing the ice cream for a couple days it is not rock hard like store bought but rich and creamy! I used to not care for vanilla but after trying this it is amazing! Be aware that the bowl, or freezer should have a lock on it to prevent cravings! It really is simple and really good ice cream.
