Crunched for time? With Alexa Flash Briefing, just a few minutes is enough to get the day's headlines from newsrooms like CBC, Bloomberg, and BBC. Personalize your Flash Briefings by choosing providers that report on the entertainment, business, sports, and local news that you care about most.

Select your news provider

1. Open the Alexa app.
2. Open More and select Settings.
3. Select News, and then Flash Briefings.
4. Select the toggle next to each news service you wish to add to your Flash Briefing.
To change the order of your selected news programs, select Edit.

Featured News Providers

To get started, just say “Alexa, play the news” and you’ll be prompted to select a preferred provider. You can also set or change your preferred provider in the Alexa App.

Want to check out the news from another provider? Just say “Alexa, play news from...” then name one of the preferred news providers to the right (i.e. “Alexa, play the news from CNBC").

A. Alexa allows you to ask questions and make requests using just your voice. For instance, you can ask Alexa a question, such as "What is the weather today in Toronto?"

Q. How do I start listening to News on Alexa?
A.
Say “Alexa, play the news” for longer-form News or “Alexa, play Flash Briefing” for a short summary of the day’s top news. If this is your first time using either, Alexa will ask you to pick your preferred news source (choose from CBC, Radio Canada and more). You can view all News providers and change your preferred news source in the Alexa app.

Q. How do I update my News Settings such as the news source?
A.
Open the Alexa app, tap More at the bottom of the screen, then select Settings. Under Alexa Preferences, choose News.
  • To update your longer-form news settings, tap on My News Channel to change your preferred news source.
  • To update Flash Briefing, tap on Flash Briefing. To turn off or turn on any news providers in your Flash Briefing playlist use the toggle. To add new providers tap Add Content.
Q. What if I have multiple Alexa News users in my household and we each prefer different news providers?
A.
You can setup Alexa Profiles so everyone in your household gets their preferred provider when they ask for the news. Create a profile by saying “Alexa, get to know me” or in the Alexa app by tapping More, selecting Settings, and tapping Your Profile & Family. Make sure each profile includes a Voice ID by following the prompts in the Alexa app or by saying, “Alexa, learn my voice.” From there, everyone can set their preferred news provider in News Settings of the Alexa app or by saying, “Alexa, play the news.” Once this is complete, when each person in your household says “play the news” their preferred news provider will play.

Q. How do I add more news providers to Flash Briefing?

A. Open the Alexa app, tap More at the bottom of the screen, then select Settings. Under Alexa Preferences, choose News. Then tap on Flash Briefing to build your playlist. To find and add Flash Briefings, tap on Add Content. Select any item then tap Enable to Use to add it to your playlist. Tap the back button to return to your Flash Briefing settings. To change the order, tap Edit, then drag and drop to rearrange. To hear your playlist, just say, “Alexa, play Flash Briefing.”

Q. How do I get longer form news coverage to listen to?
A.
. To see or hear longer-form coverage from top news sources, just ask for any News Channel by name by saying something like “Alexa, play news from CTV News.” You can skip any story by saying, “Alexa, next”, unless it’s a live-stream.
