This is one of those rare candies where they got it right on the money and 'ticked all the boxes'. It goes well beyond simply that they "taste good". I'll lay out the key points for me...
Hands: When you eat them your hands won't get sticky or stained yellow. They have a light sugar coating, which is light enough not to stick to your fingers, but heavy enough to keep your fingers from touching the yellow directly.
Chew: The texture of the chew is a nice balance between firmness and stickiness. Unlike with jujubes that leave you picking them out of your teeth, these don't stick around after you swallow. That includes the tongue, which didn't get yellow when I ate them.
Taste: While they taste good, it's not because it's overwhelming. In fact, it's the subtly of the taste that makes them tasty. Sure they have a sugar coating, but it's not overpowering. The one thing I suggest is that you eat them in pairs. The reason being is that if you eat them in pairs, the sugar from one candy, will complement the inside of the other candy--and vice versa.
Stomach: I don't want to feel like I just ate a bag of sugar after eating candies. While eating a large number of any candy will leave your stomach unhappy, I found that happened later with these candies, perhaps because they aren't as loaded with sugar.
Product origin: These candies are made in Spain, and shipped to Canada and packaged in Montreal. While it would be nice if they were made in Canada, there are other places it could be made where I would be concerned about quality control.
Calories: They list it as 150 calories for 45g, so how many is that? About 36 candies. This breaks down to ~4 calories per candy. By comparison, that's the same amount of calories in two TicTacs. If I want to enjoy candies, I don't want to feel 'guilty' when I'm done.
Value for money: Given the weight of 36 candies, I did the math and the result is that a 1kg bag will hold about 800 candies. At the current price that's about 1.34 cents per candy. If you eat a 'serving size' of 36 candies, that will set you back about 50 cents.
Ingredients: I was surprised at how basic the ingredients were. It's a good example of 'less is more'. They're basically glucose syrup, sugar, water, and gelatin. The best before date on the bag I received (in July 2021) was May 2023. If you can make a bag of these last that long, you're a better person than I am.
