Nice But Needed Work!

Nice But Needed Work!
At the moment I am very happy with the way this guitar turned out. I spent quite a bit of time setting the tremolo, the intonation and the action. Out of the box, none of those elements were in place. I know that's to be somewhat expected from a budget guitar, but this was a bit rough. Now though, it is playing very nicely, and actually has quite a few features that you would expect to find on a higher end guitar, such as roasted maple neck and bone nut. The tremolo block is decently heavy, but when I was adjusting it one of the claw screws came right out and I had to do a repair to finish the job. It holds tune well! Tuners slip a bit but are decent. WestCreek asked me for my thoughts as it is a new model. I was pretty thorough but never heard back from them so not sure if they really wanted the feedback. Overall a nice looking guitar that will play very well with some TLC.

Many issues with this first Fender style from Westcreek, and it shouldn't be like this. These must be made in a different factory from their other guitars as the workmanship and some of the parts are really not right. Great pickups, tuners, thick bridge block, nice neck and body, but putting them all together seems like children did it as a school project. Only the few of us that work on guitars and have some of the basic tools required will have great guitars in the end. I can see so many returns occurring on this first run of the JX-20s.

I'm running a full playlist series on the work needed to correct everything on my you tube channel called 2bikemike's guitar topics. Also look up my buddy J-Man channel, he's doing the same teardown.

Not as great as I expected , mine came with no volume or tone knobs , so I added my own to the guitar. The pickups are bright ,lots of treble. It also had cheap strings on it so once they were changed it helped a lot. I love the paint job on it. But over all some other West Creek guitars I bought have been better value for the money. (Helios, Hollow Body, Racer -Think off set SG-and Revenge) A good build platform guitar if you are into that I suppose.

This is a review of the body mostly. I don't care about the hardware on cheap guitars, my assumption is that for it to be decent I'm going to have to swap it all out anyway which is what I intend to do here. But I'm sure it's fine for practice.

The roasted maple neck looks great. The graphic on the body has no blemishes or discolorations. It looks awesome. They say the body is mahogany, I haven't checked, but it weights like it is. The body itself is as thick as a Fender body. Cheaper Squire bodies tend to be as thin as possible.

A little buzz on the two centermost strings. Might need a neck adjustment, I'll have to check when I get my tools at it. But if it does then only slightly. The frets are simply the best frets I've ever seen on a sub-$500 guitar. They are as rounded as advertised and need no sanding on the ends. Might have to do some to get rid of the fret buzz though.

The "double-faced headstock" is just painted. I thought the black part was going to be recessed a little. The paint bleeds a little on the edge but you don't really notice.

I plan to swap out all the hardware on here. Tuners, bridge, pickups, ALL of the wiring, even the pots and switches. So for me, this is an amazing purchase. Easily better put together than price comparable items from Squire and Ephiphone. Modern play features, like a smoothed neck heel. Highly recommended.

A stunning guitar, visually flawless, and the pickups sound amazing. But, I am going to return this guitar. There are just too many issues for me to deal with. I spent a lot of time with setup and it is still not right. The cheap jack occasionally spits out the power chord which was the final draw. This would have been my 3rd Westcreek guitar, I wanna keep it, but it's definitely a return. I hope to buy it again when quality control kicks in.
My guitar weighed about 7.3 pounds which was fine for me.

My JX-20 came packed in a very nice shipping box with no dings or scratches. The fit and finish are top notch, pulled it out tuned it up and it was playable straight away. I own way too many guitars from the big brand names all the way to the budget guitars as well. This guitar has really great bones and is built really well! The roasted maple neck is a very nice C shape, the fret work is very well done, you will need to polish them, the bone nut was cut really nice with a rosewood( I think Indian) fret board. I always expect to to some work on guitars at this price point, which is part of the reason I like to buy them. This guitar needed very little work beyond a normal set up, it did need a neck shim, replaced the tuners with some Hip- Shot locking tuners, (the stock tuners were fine I do this to all my guitars.) set the action to my liking and it needed the intonation done on the low E and D strings. The rest of the intonation was spot on. The pick ups are Alnico V and sound really good the split coil humbucker is pretty hot and handles any gain really well. I hate to say this guitar is great for the money as I find this to be a great guitar period. A super value and once again really well built. I was trying to contact Westcreek directly to let them know how pleased I am with their product but couldn't get their website to load on my computer for some reason, something on my end probably. I am super impressed with quality of this instrument and will probably be looking at some other Westcreek guitars for sure

I love every aspect of this guitar. Great finish, perfect neck and frets. Pickups are strong.Easy to set up. The only thing I suggest future owners do is put a treble bleed in the guitar. It will open all the avenues this guitar does well.
