This is a really good set for the price. My only complaints are that you can't put it in speaker phone and that there is a delay when dialing. At first I had to hang up and redial a lot. But I'm getting used to slowing down and dialing slower, so all good.

I am pretty satisfied with its performance. However, I would like to point out that this particular model does not have a speakerphone feature. If you require a speakerphone, I recommend looking into the Vtech CS6929 model (ASIN B010S7DNFI).

A 30-name/number memory allows me to identify incoming calls quickly. The 11-minute digital answering machine with bilingual voice prompts (English/French) is also a convenient addition. It ensures that I never miss an important message.

The green backlit keypad and display are visually appealing and make it easier to use the phone in low-light conditions. The volume control feature allows me to adjust the sound to my preference, ensuring clear and audible conversations.

I appreciate that this phone system is both ROHS and Energy Star compliant and meets specific environmental standards. This aligns with my values of sustainability and energy efficiency.

One aspect that I particularly like about this phone system is the memory-free NiMH battery. This means I don't have to worry about memory degradation over time, ensuring consistent performance.

After 10yrs our old phones started to have issues. For all the use and abuse, they lasted a long time. They still make the same model too but, I grabbed these instead because of the nicer rubber buttons and bigger body for grip. Answering machine looks simpler as well. The only downside really is the lack of hands-free. Honestly, maybe used it once or twice a year so, won't miss it but was nice to have just in case.

Without bothering to mention this, when you try installing this phone/answering machine it will not give you a dial tone if you don't buy a separate, not included, DSL filter.

Both the quick start guide and the user manual tell you that if you don't get a dial-tone use should contact your cable service provider (after resetting the equipment and being certain you hooked it up properly). I did that. They (Cogeco) don't troubleshoot third party equipment. Since the line works fine with my old phone (I bought this for the answering machine) they rightly state it isn't their problem. And they had no idea how to fix this issue.

IMHO: Vtech Canada has a lot of nerve passing the buck to the cable provider when they KNOW up front that it won't work and they don't disclose that information prior to buying. I consider it fraud - a version of theft.

I am now buying ($5) a DSL filter from eBay and will update this review to let you know if that works or if I really got screwed!

I recommend you buy from a different manufacturer - I know, in the future, I certainly won't be dealing with any Vtech equipment ever again!

BTW: If you are wondering about the other reviews saying this is great - MagicJack is a DSL filter so you don't need another, separate DSL filter if you use MagicJack.

UPDATE:

Okay so I got the DSL filter and it works now. Cost me just over $5, an hour or more of my time and 4-5 weeks wait on the extra part that they knew I'd need and never bothered to mention.
