I picked this up on "daily deal" sale because I like knots. I don't tie them often but have used them climbing, river running, camping, making a solid impression on a first date, etc. I find them to be, generally, an elegant thing and, perhaps, a good way for a single person to pass the time! 🙂. I even did a bit of macrame a long time ago.

In the Kindle edition, the photos are easily accessible and one can easily enlarge them and the quality remains good once enlarged. There is interesting background on the history of cordage which, when it became no longer interesting, I could skip ahead to the actual knots.

One observation is that the tying instructions offer one method and not necessarily the easiest. For example, I learned to tie the Alpine Butterfly in a dead simple fashion, easily remembered 20 years after my first introduction. The method in the book wasn't as simple but, perhaps, it shows better the actual mechanics of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE KNOT BIBLE!!

Thank you for creating this book. It is evident that you spent immense time researching knot history (fascinating in itself), the 5 types of knots, beautiful, clear, color drawings in step by step fashion, and explaining the function of each knot type, a knot that will NEVER slip, and even the knot experts organization (mostly in England where the Royal Navy used them) Also, you laid out the 5 or 6 known knot materials with strength rating, water reaction, temperature traits and even the different types of knot braids!! Now i can go to a store and quickly pick put the perfect rope for my purpose. With a knowledge of only 5 knots i can fasten common items securely without worry about failure. Even a money bag cinching knot! Well done! Nylon still one of the strongest materials. Spiderweb stronger than any other known material. Who would have guessed?!!
