Good phone for making and receiving basic calls and reading text messages

Good phone for making and receiving basic calls and reading text messages
I was able to insert and activate a new SIM card in this phone. My Mobile Virtual Network Operator runs on the Rogers GSM network, and I was able connect without issue. I successfully made an outbound call and sent/received text messages. The positive features of this phone for a senior:1. Large buffered buttons, kind of like an oversized calculator. A low vision person can easily feel the delineation of each button and the text on the buttons is large format.2. Very simple process for making a call: just unlock the phone and start keying in the numbers. There is no overwhelming number of apps and pages through which to scroll.3. SOS function is versatile. I configured and successfully tested the red SOS button on the back of the phone to emit a very loud alarm and to initiate both a text message and phone call to a phone number of my choice. There is also an option to set multiple numbers and to customize the emergency text message that is sent. The less positive aspects:1. While it is easy to make and receive calls, and to read texts, I believe a senior person with dexterity and/or cognitive issues could struggle mightily with the system for writing text messages on this phone. The typing system assigns multiple values to each key. For instance, with the 2 key, you get "a" with one tap, "b" with two fast taps, "c" with three fast taps, and "2" with four fast taps. Hesitate even a split-second between taps, and you end up with the incorrect character.2. Since the screen is quite small relative to an iPhone or Android phone, all Settings are hidden in various sub-menus. For a person with any sort of cognitive impairments, it could be easy to get confused trying to figure out where to go and what to do. While the main menu of actions is fairly straightforward, as someone who works with technology regularly, even I didn't necessarily find everything intuitive. For instance, I wanted to mute the ringer, which I expected to find in the Phone Settings area. However, there was no option there, and lowering the physical volume button didn't achieve the outcome either. I finally discovered that the mute option for the ringer is under "Profiles", which contains the options General, Silent, and Meeting. Silent means mute whereas Meeting means vibration, which I had to test to figure out.3. There are some inaccuracies in the instructions. For instance, it discusses a "Video Recorder," but unless my eyes are really missing the obvious, I don't see a camera lens anywhere on this phone. In conclusion, the usefulness of this phone really depends on the challenges of the senior in mind and the intended uses of the phone. For instance, I think this phone is best suited for a senior person who mainly needs to make calls and to read (as opposed to write) text messages. While the phone has many other hidden and potentially useful features, unless the senior is particularly adept at technology and has no cognitive issues, it is hard for me to envision him/her using many of those features. For instance, the phone apparently does have a browser, but it seems to me that any senior with the patience and dexterity needed to use the multi-press typing system to key in a URL would be better off using a full-sized iphone or Android phone.

Used a Rogers SIM card for this phone. Worked perfectly. Although it doesn’t use 5G, you’ll get 3G only. Its intended use was for phone calls. Sound is crystal clear for calls and sounds it makes. The phone is just super tiny and slippery. The plastic material has zero grip. Too small for the average person to hold up to their head during a call. Let alone seniors. Okay price for the phone though. Nice big numbers and easy to navigate.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
The USHINING phone is a convenient, easy-to-use phone for seniors. The phone comes in an attractive and giftable retail box. The package includes the phone, battery, charging cord and user manual. It's fairly easy and quick to install the sim card on this phone.

The phone is easy to use. It is designed with large, easy-to-read icons and a bright display, which makes it easy to navigate through the menu options. The large font size can be adjusted to fit different vision needs. The phone also has a dedicated button for emergency services, which provides a sense of security and peace of mind.

This phone has all the essential features that a senior would need in a phone. It has a camera, a calendar, and a calculator. The battery life of the phone is impressive, lasting for days without needing to be charged. The phone also has a charging dock that makes it easy to charge without having to fuss with cables. Overall, this is an excellent choice for seniors looking for a phone that is easy to use and has all the necessary features. Full marks from me!

Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
Current price point at the time/date of this review: $85.99 with no discount/coupon currently being offered by the seller at this time. Price point is reasonable and fair, it’s one of those specialty items for the elderly/seniors - particularly those types with disabilities and/or diseases. Unit also works good with young kids who aren’t quite at the age yet to have their own (advanced) cell phone.

Unit works fine, I have yet to get a dedicated SIM for it, but the build quality is quite decent and I think it could handle a few light drops - unlike the more delicate name branded smart phones out on the market. Comes with all the basic calling features as well as a few additional (and practical) features such as a flashlight, calculator, radio, etc.. And yes, this phone is equipped with Bluetooth.

Works fine for its intended purpose.

Product arrived on time, packaged nicely. Installation was easy. However, the phone stopped working in less than 8 months. Has gone completely dead. I have contacted the seller and I'm waiting for a reply. This review will be updated once the seller reaches out to me with possible solution.
