Exactly the pain I was looking for!
4 Stars
Exactly the pain I was looking for!
Let's be realistic: it is a pain to use this phone! But at a price of $120 CAD (minus a $10 coupon) at the time of writing, this was exactly the pain I was looking for!I already have my Samsung phone (well, actually two of them) that I use with two lines and I wanted another phone for a new line that I would not be using frequently. My only requirement was that it should be a very cheap phone just to receive occasional calls and check occasional messages. This met the requirement with its price.Despite the low price, it also provided some extras that I was not expecting. The top one is mobile hotspot tethering. Although I don't consider this phone as a very functional one, it can still share its Internet connection from the mobile service provider as a Wi-Fi hotspot. This worked great when I had visitors from abroad, I just gave them this phone, and they used it to access Internet on their own phone without roaming. There are other things like GPS and Internet browsing, but I do those with my primary phone.I will not get into any other functionalities or benefits of this phone, as compared to the modern advanced mobile phones, it really doesn't have much to offer. Figuring out the menu system is hard. Entering text is a pain. Well, using the phone itself is overall a serious pain. Thus, I will urge you that this is neither a phone for kids, nor one for seniors. Kids will hate it, and seniors will probably have hard time using it. But it is very very cheap in price, and does the basic communication deeds of talking and messaging. It is small and lightweight. Although it has a battery with a small capacity compared to modern phones, it probably does not use much charge either, so the charge lasts you for a few days.I've included the photos of the back of the phone with the back cover removed, one without the battery and the other with the battery in place. As you can see you just have to put your SIM card in its slot, and possibly a memory card in the other slot if you like. Even the slots are hard to open and close, but you only have to do it once, so I don't consider it as a big problem.By the way, this is a 4G phone, so you have a reasonable access speed to the Internet, and you really don't need a 5G access with a cheap phone like this. I used it with a new Freedom Mobile 4G line. Since the line was intended for occasional use, a 4G line was sufficient and cheaper than the 5G ones too.Since I had no expectations other than a low price, I will not criticize anything about it except for maybe the charging port. It uses a micro-USB port (adapter with cable provided) and it could have been a USB-C port instead, which is now the standard.Overall, a 4G phone with a very low price. It is definitely not for seniors or kids, unless you are looking for a cheap phone for a senior or a kid. It was nice to see some unexpected extras such as mobile hotspot tethering/sharing and GPS. It is very easy to carry and very hard to use, but yes, it is very very cheap in price. I can recommend it if price is your first priority. It is cheap, but it gives you the basic functions you need. I cut a star only because it was very hard to use it, but that is probably to be expected from a phone at this price.

I'm in my eighties and visually impaired, this against my EasyFone.
Specs:
Screen: (2.8") makes a difference for visually impaired. Comfy.
Picture: sharp and clear.
Sound:i very good.
Feel of it: good.
Shape: a bit awkward, because of the screen size.
Features: excellent.
Interesting: Linux O/S
Camera: ha ha ha ha - really? (I don't take pictures anyway.)
Missing: No flashlight on a phone meant for Seniors. Dumb oversight.
Missing: FM Radio. In a hospital/doctor waiting room, it's good to have.
Start-up: Slower than molasses.
Shut down: Faster than a hiccup.
Negative: Fingerprint magnet. Brand new out of the box, it came with fingerprints all over it. Why? Whose?
Atrocious: SIM card slot. Keep losing the cards, ultra tiny.
Delivery: Amazon Canada perfect. Right to my own door.

I so want to love this phone. And don't.
So, went back a ordered a new EasyFone with 4G which is not perfect either...

Likes: great grip for seniors and large display; weight is fine.
Dislikes: no manual, very difficult to open the back cover and you either damage your nails or the back cover, hence a very poor design and construction; no SOS button for the seniors that is serving.
Dislikes continued: the display of signal and battery could be larger.
Does the Ushing phone have a battery that can be purchased commercially or it is a proprietary battery from Ushing only?

Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
This is a decent (albeit rather basic) flip mobile phone that appears to be reasonably well made and for the most part it works as expected without issues. It runs a variation of Linux but the apps (not that many anyway) are generally no different than most other Android phones and they work more or less in the same way.

It has most, if not all, of the typical and common functions and features that you might find on budget mobile phones including messages, call history, contacts, gallery, media player, camera, browser and so on. The apps are rather basic in natural but that's expected since this phone is rather basic with only 1GB of RAM and 8GB storage (expandable to 128GB if needed although I really don't see anyone would wanna do that).

Aside from the usual apps and whatnot, it does have a built-in GPS, Wi-Fi and BT that the cheaper alternatives don't always have. It has a decent screen size of 2.8" (TFT) but no touch screen so just keep that in mind since navigating using buttons isn't just old-fashioned but it's also tiresome in my mind. In addition, it features secondary external display that's about 1.77" in size.

Like most of these budget/basic phones it's equipped with a 2MP main camera but unfortunately it doesn't have a selfie camera. I don't have to tell you the quality of both of these is, well, pretty bad to put it mildly; however, they do serve the purpose of being a just-in-case or something-good-to-have kind of camera.

It has a rather small battery of 1400 mAh but that's actually not bad given the circumstance. It's actually slightly smaller than many others but it should still last for a few days based on the expected usage and/or use case (which should be close to none) of this particular phone. This would be a great secondary phone or even as a primary one who doesn't do a lot of reading because I do find the screen to be irritatingly (and tiresome) small after a while.

As aforementioned, it has a 2MP main camera and it's unlikely that the camera can be useful as a 'camera' by today's standard; however, it can still be used in an emergency situation of course provided that you're aware of its limitations (or when picture quality isn't a concern).

As a simple old-fashioned flip phone, this is more than adequate; however, I do find the navigation buttons a bit difficult (or at least not as easy as expected) to use because they are too close to each other and/or the round ENTER button at the center. Oh well, perhaps I just need some, practice.

≡ Value
All things considered, this is a somewhat decent (albeit very basic) flip mobile phone with basic apps and features as one would expect; however, it's a bit pricey at $126 for what it provides and its overall futures, usability, versatility, and performance. I've come across about a dozen of these non-smart mobile phones (for seniors or whatnot) and this is amongst some of the least capable ones at this price range and there are certainly many other options and/or alternatives out there if you care to shop around. Your mileage might vary.

I'm a caretaker for an older family member with special needs, whose ability to use any kind of IT is quite limited. We've been maintaining a landline for years, because it was a phone he could use to reach us and his friends (using speed dial), and us reach him, provided he was at home. We've wanted to ditch that line for ages now, but phones are either too complex, too small, or just not practical, given our specific situation.

I stumbled on this phone one day and decided we should try it out. It really harkens back to the early 2000s. It's very much that style of flip phone, but with a bigger screen, better camera, bluetooth and wifi... No touch screen and no keyboard. But some nice big buttons on the keypad.

Set up was simple. To test, I just threw in my Telus SIM card and it connected to the network no problem. I programmed in a few contacts and assigned them to the numbers on the keypad. All my family member needs to do to is hold down a button until it dials that person. To answer calls, he can flip it open, or if it's open, press any button. To end calls, just close it. It's about as simple as it gets. Call quality is clear on both ends, though because of some mobility issues, we're experimenting with all calls going straight to speakerphone (there's a setting for that).

We're quite satisfied with this phone, especially at the price point. We'll be able to finally cancel our landline, and give our family member more independence and more security, by being reachable and able to reach us wherever he is.

5.0 out of 5 stars I LIKE THE USHINING FLIP PHONE

I very much like the FLIP PHONE. Though I've not yet figured out how to use all features, it lives up to their advertised pros. Presently, I've not yet figured out how to increase its ring volume. Their instruction sheet is very brief, so if you are a newcomer, it isn't easy to learn how to it. But for what features I have been successful learning, I very much like the product, The photo gallery pictures aren't as good as those taken with a smart phone. But, again, I might need to learn how to adjust them. For the moment, I might give the camera a poor rating. --> a 2 or 3 star rating.

1.0 out of 5 stars This phone is unable to connect to my carrier's (Tello) sim card

As specified in the seller's listing on Amazon, this phone is compatible with AT&T, T Mobile, and their respective MVNOs such as Tello. The phone does not work with Tello, my MVNO carrier at present. I have no interest in fishing through various, assorted, phone service carriers seeking sim cards the phone deems acceptable.
I cannot return the phone to seller as I broke the Micro CD card caddy while trying to insert my 16GB nano memory card. If one brakes an item on a retail shelf, one now owns that broken item. I broke it, I own it.

This phone is a blast from the past with a sprinkle of the future! It’s like a time machine that fits in your pocket. The Qualcomm Chip is faster than my old computer, and the GPS is so accurate it could probably find a needle in a haystack.

The T9 Input brought back memories of college, where I was the fastest texter in the west. The big buttons are a godsend for my sausage fingers, and the Dual Screen is like having a cinema in my pocket.

The WiFi is strong enough to download my favorite cat videos, and the Voice Function makes me feel like I’m in a sci-fi movie. Perfect for both seniors who want simplicity and kids who want to feel like secret agents.

In conclusion, the USHINING 4G Unlocked Flip Phone is the perfect blend of nostalgia and technology. It’s not just a phone, it’s a conversation starter!

Nice little backup phone to keep around for flipping open to make and receive calls. It's got a rubberized texture over the entire thing, the kind that usually wears off and looks bad after a while.

It's very slow to start up. It has wifi and bluetooth, and there are menu options for wireless hotspot as well. The buttons are all backlit nicely with large fonts and are very clear and easy to read. The button presses feel nice.

Removable battery and that's where the SIM card goes as well, behind that battery back cover. It's a pretty typical flip-dumb-phone with branding that I've never heard of.

The camera DOES NOT WORK at all. The app won't even open, neither from internal menu diving, or it's hot-button. It acts like it's about to go into camera-mode, then immediately reverts back to the Home Screen. I've tried everything, even read through the entire manual. There's a lens and a Camera Icon, but nothing works. Weird.
