Product description

Safeguard your lens and absorb UV light. Film and video are more sensitive to UV light than our eyes are. This often shows up as a bluish cast in images, especially shots from high altitudes and long distances, particularly over water. Ultra Violet filters are available in a variety of UV absorption levels. Reduces excessive blue by absorbing almost three quarters of UV light. Best general purpose UV control Eliminates UV problems from most situations where increased haze tends to wash out color and image clarity Protects your camera or camcorder lens against dust, moisture, fingerprints, scratches and damage Can be kept on your camera at all times

I bought this as a lens protector. It seems like it will do well.

Pros:
-The threading is nice and isn't as finicky and tight as a Hoya.
-The frame is a bit thicker than a Hoya which, since it's going on a zoom lens that's really shallow at the end, could help with protection.
-Cheaper than a Hoya
-Manufactured in North America

Cons
-Lacks a premium look and feel compared to a Hoya. Looking diagonally across the filter you can see the cut glass at the edges. It is thicker and heavier over-all compared to a Hoya.
-The package/case: *be warned*... it doesn't hinge and the fit between the case halves is tight. If you aren't expecting this the case may come open in a way that leaves you trying to catch the filter before it hits the ground.

This has been my mantra since I got my first camera back in the sixties and when I fell last week it was reinforced. The lens cap was driven right into the filter which shattered into a thousand pieces, but my $1200 lens remained intact, thank goodness! So this filter is the replacement for the one which was destroyed.
ALWAYS have a filter on your lens! :)

As a photo enthusiast, this is a brand name at a great price point. Fitted it on my recent Amazon purchase of Sony 70-350 G lens. Photos were sharp and crisp with the added benefit of protecting the lens.

Cheaper filters tend to generate flaring or artifacts. It's always worth going with an more expensive brand like Tiffen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tiffen 67UVP 67mm UV Protection Filter: A Great Choice for Lens Protection
Reviewed in the United States on April 5, 2024

I've been using the Tiffen 67UVP 67mm UV Protection Filter for a few months now, and I'm really impressed with it. Here's why I think it's a great choice for anyone looking for a lens protector:

Protection First and Foremost

The primary function of a UV filter is to shield your valuable camera lens from scratches, dust, and fingerprints. The Tiffen 67UVP does this admirably. It's well-built with a scratch-resistant surface and a tight-fitting metal ring that minimizes the chance of the filter falling off accidentally.

Double Duty: UV Protection and Clear Images

While the UV protection is a bonus, the filter doesn't affect the image quality in any noticeable way. There's no color cast or softening, and it doesn't introduce any vignetting (dark corners) even on wide-angle lenses. This makes it a great option for keeping on your lens at all times for peace of mind.

Affordable Protection

Tiffen UV filters are known for being well-priced, and the 67UVP is no exception. For around $10 to $20, you're getting a high-quality filter from a reputable brand that will last for years.

Overall, I highly recommend the Tiffen 67UVP 67mm UV Protection Filter. It's an affordable way to safeguard your investment and keep your lens looking its best.

Here are some additional points to consider:

Some photographers argue that UV filters can very slightly reduce image quality. In my experience, this is negligible and far outweighed by the protection benefits.
If you're mostly shooting indoors or in good lighting conditions, a UV filter may not be necessary. However, it's still a good idea to have one on hand for situations where dust or scratches are a concern.
