Old review: I ordered the Mineral 23L version. The pictures of the product show a side handle as well as a zipper to remove a laptop from the side. Inside, there was also supposed to be a flap for the laptop compartment. These are NOT present in the 23L version, and is most likely just for the 30L type. After looking at the official Thule website, this was confirmed to be only for the 30L version of this type.
However, it sure is a sturdy bag and the right size for my needs. Whether travel or baby supplies or work, this bag can hold it all. Although I paid a pricey CAD 150 + tax, it is a long term investment and I feel it will probably last till my infant goes to high school. Big fan and will surely recommend.
I would suggest to have pictures that accurately describe the specific type of product.

Against a good old Dakine backpack, of which I swear by, I think this is a taller, slimmer profile idea. I would use the Dakine casually and this Thule where I might be worried about brush or bumps. The front most fold is not a compartment, just decoration.
The capacity is 30L, but I think that the somewhat bulky interior would displace that. That is not a detraction for me, as 28/29L is suitable in sacrifice for extra padding.
Zippers and handles seem like they could take on a nuclear blast.
I'll update with how it preforms abroad in daily use when I can
Pros:
- Great overall quality
- Laptop side pocket was the seller for me (very convenient)
- material is solid, strong zippers
- compartments are great overall
Cons:
- Large Thule logo (almost a deal breaker)
- Missing a quick access exterior zipper compartment, no idea why its not there.
Overall would recommend, it is exactly what i was looking for. Not perfect but great.

Everything on this bag is of high quality. What we love most is the strap design. I have small shoulders and cannot keep some bags "on" easily. This bag not only stays on one or both shoulders but the structure of the bag nicely distributes weight across the back for easy carrying when full.
This is not meant to be a hiking backpack so is not as light as some but it is a fine weight when put up against travel backpacks. Lighter than some Tumi backpacks and "almost" as nice.
What I would change? I would love if the THULE logo were a bit smaller and I am not a fan of the blue interior (but it does make it easier to find items....and the blue is not visible when closed. I worried it was visible on the zipper but it very subtle and, again, not noticeable when closed). I might also blend the first two compartments for one bigger compartment but this is personal preference and use. All this aside, we did buy a second one because it was super functional, easy to carry, and made of high quality materials.
Advice: I would try to avoid buying during travel season. We bought the first one for $130 and the second one (a week later) for $165. Supply and demand - sigh.

In terms of disadvantages, there are only a few. The orange lining is a bit garish and the mesh netting on the internal pocket is thin - but it’s not ripped or anything like that. There is limited internal space for, say, a lunchbox, social if you do utilise the various internal pouches. However, I can squeeze in a slim lunch container, a small cable bag (inc travel mouse) and a foldout laptop stand plus keyboard.
Another practical issue is that the main zip doesn’t extend far enough to pull back the entire face of the bag and gain easier access. The reason is because of the existence of the two mini-side pouches at the bottom. These pouches are a bit too small to be of much practical use but, given they are elasticated, you can poke an umbrella or slim bottle into them.
The laws of physics simply dictate that you cannot have everything. If you want a slimline profile (yes) and lots of pouches for organisation (another tick), there’s going to be a limit to internal space. Otherwise, you’ll get that bulbous “turtle shell” effect at the rear - and nobody wants that going on.
Thule was forced to make some design choices and it has gotten nearly all of them correct here. If they’d toned down the nuclear-orange lining and improved the quality of the pouch mesh, it’d be almost perfect. One other improvement would be a hidden pocket for a phone like many other rucksacks. Having to put the phone in a pocket on the top/rear (ie near the handle) is OK but a secret pouch prevents anyone rifling the pockets behind you in crowded scenarios.
But that is being picky. Overall, I’m delighted with this bag and highly recommend it to anyone who had a discerning eye without wanting to spend big on designer model. This one is not exactly cheap but it does provide superb value-for-money. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed here unless you carry a huge lunch every day.
