Realistic and ergonomic joystickIn real life, pilots use a stick and throttle as flight controls, as these are the most effective in terms of performance and precision. T. Flight Hotas 4 provides this same level of realism. The joystick’s unique, ergonomic design adapts to all types of flight (aerial combat, space adventure, civil flight, etc). The large hand rest helps players keep their hand in a very stable and relaxed position, to respond to the subtlest motions. Adjust the stick’s resistance to suit your needs and preferences. The base is weighted, to offer enhanced stability during gaming sessions. |
Detachable throttleThe joystick features a full-size throttle which you can use to easily control the acceleration of your aircraft. The throttle is detachable and may be positioned in 2 different ways, either: - Detached and separated from the joystick (to recreate authentic piloting conditions); or - Attached to the joystick (for greater stability and to take up less space) |
Dual rudder systemThe joystick features a rudder function, which in a plane corresponds to the pedals used by the pilot to turn the steering, allowing the plane to pivot around its vertical axis (therefore making the plane turn left or right). This rudder function is accessible on your joystick by rotating the handle (with integrated locking system) or by progressive tilting lever. |

Suddenly, you find yourself with an absolute overkill of an expensive setup, while still basically sitting and staring at the same screen, sitting at the same desk, trying to remember which flip switch combined with which hat switch/analog thumbstick direction will order your third lance mate to attack the second enemy on the left with heat seeking missile...
To find out if you REALLY need one of those fancy $350+ rigs (before VR), this may be a good way to start. Who knows, you may even find out it's EXACTLY the thing you need and stick with it, as I did.
Shell out a hundo or so and try this basic 4-axis and dozen or so buttons kit. It feels pretty solid, no squeaks or creeks, it's effectively plug & play, with just minor configuration needed for each particular game and it really elevates the experience of any flight or mech simulation, compared to mouse/keyboard combo.
Look... It's undisputable that, factually, mouse & keyboard are more precise and easier to use in every usage case, but you are not buying a HOTAS to make thing easier on yourself. Hell no, piloting military airplanes/battlemechs/spaceships is not for wimps! Only the best of the best, truly Elite can handle those magnificent engines of destruction, as they were meant to be, with sticks and pedals (pedals not included, but there are cheap ones you can get). And using a mouse to point and click your way to victory is beneath the dignity of the true warrior you know you are.
No, you will get one of these things and play the right way, the HARD way, dammit!
Get to it soldier!
functions well and is precise enough to make it more immersive than a controller for the flight fan.
This is the best introductory HOTAS (Hand On Throttle And Stick) controller that you can get on a budget. I worked flawlessly in Elite Dangerous and I was very satisfied with its quality. There are plenty of programmable buttons on the controller and even adjustable tension screws on the bottom to adjust the sensitively of the stick to fit your needs.
If you are interested in purchasing a HOTAS for your flight-simulator games, this is a AMAZING product to buy. I did not want to spend $100+ on my first HOTAS since I was just getting it for a video game, but it turns out that even after a year long, I still own this today and I don't feel the need to upgrade.
I recommend this product. I obsessively researched for hours in finding the best Hotas for my money. If I save you any time at all, let me know that I was Helpful.
Pros:
This is the cheapest HOTAS on the market, PERIOD. It get's 5 starts because of that, plus the fact it's not a complete piece of garbage.
Despite the low price point it feels fairly well put together.
Many buttons, all well placed.
Cons:
After using this for 3+ hours at a time (I'm a degenerate) my index finger on the fire button starts to get a little sore. It's hard plastic.
Suggestions: Some weights or a matte pad to keep this thing locked down. I've had it move a little during my more intense firefights :).
Compared to the Turtle Beach, the Thrusmaster feels cheap. The handles are hard plastic, there is wiggle room on the stick's vertical rotation (rudder) and the ensemble is light. The ergonomy takes some getting used to as well: the palm of the stick is very fat and it feels like a thumb button is missing. On XBox, the stick does not respond as well as it does on PC with updated drivers and firmware. The precision is acceptable, although the Turtle Beach felt better.
All in all, purchased it to play Ace combat 7, and it fills that purpose very well. Having a throttle dedicated hand really immerses you in the game.
Please note that I got these to use with my laptop while playing Flight Sim using Xbox Game Pass "cloud gaming", however the service does NOT support this controller in cloud gaming mode. You have to install Flight Sim locally on a gaming PC or on an Xbox to be able to use this controller. I don't hold that against Thrustmaster, as that appears to be a limitation that Microsoft has.
I'm still exploring Flight Sim, so I haven't tried this with any other flight game, but I cannot see how this would not be an improvement in any flying game, especially one that is focused on simulation and not arcade.
