This is a review of the Tearstone Wireless Lavalier Microphone for iPhone Android: Mini Lapel Mic with Intelligent Noise Cancelling, 48kHz/16bit, 100ft Range, for Camera, PC, Laptop, Video Recording, Streaming, Interview, Vlogs.
This is an entry level lavalier microphone set up, and, unfortunately, the sound is pretty poor (it is ‘boxy’, compressed, and harsh), and almost unlistenable at times. In addition, the recording level is significantly below what it should be.
Although the microphones maintained a signal when I walked 30 ft. from the receiver, every little movement was translated into an obtrusive, unpleasant sound artefact - this does not happen with some other lavalier microphones at this price point in which the noise cancellation is of a higher standard than it is here.
Overall, the Tearstone Wireless Lavalier Microphone is disappointing, even for an entry-level microphone system. If you have nothing else, you would be able to record audio with this system, but it would require significant sound sculpting to improve this audio, and even then it would not really be possible to bring the audio to an acceptable standard for broadcasting, or to be suitable for video or audio interviews, and content creation.
If you do not have access to anything else, then this Tearstone system would be better than nothing, but I cannot recommend it.

HOW THE TEARSTONE WIRELESS LAVALIER MICROPHONE WORKS
The Tearstone Wireless Lavalier Microphone set up works by the lavalier microphones wirelessly transmitting the audio to the Tearstone Wireless Lavalier Microphone receiver, which you have plugged into a device such as a ‘phone, or a laptop.
1. The receiver in this Tearstone Wireless Lavalier Microphone ‘kit’ has a physical, 3.5mm ‘male’ connector, as well as male USB C and Lightning connectors
So, anyone interested in getting this kit should check that their ‘phone [or other devices] has a physical, ‘female’ socket to accommodate the Tearstone Wireless Lavalier Microphone receiver for whichever of these methods of recording they will be using.
This is important because a lot of ‘phones these days use Bluetooth, and do not have a physical socket.
2. In some cases, the receiver in a wireless lavalier microphone kit like this one can actually record audio: so, you get 2 sets of audio recorded - one on the device you have plugged the receiver into [e.g., a laptop, or a mobile ‘phone], and the other recording on the receiver itself - the receiver in this Tearstone Wireless Lavalier Microphone Wireless Mini Lapel Lavalier Microphone for iPhone Android Camera, PC, Laptop package does not record audio
3. IMPORTANT - as is the case with some other USB devices I have tested, I found that the Tearstone Wireless Lavalier Microphone cannot be recorded directly into my laptop using my audio program of choice (a professional ‘Digital Audio Workstation’, called Reaper).
Rather, the way to get the Tearstone Wireless Lavalier Microphone to record to the laptop is to use the Windows Sound Recorder app, which comes with Windows
TESTS
I tested the Tearstone Wireless Lavalier Microphone lavalier microphones in exactly the same way for all the tests: attached to my shirt, about 7-9 inches below my chin.
PROS - WHAT I LIKE
1. Very easy to use - just turn on the microphones and receiver, and plug the receiver into the device on to which you are recording (e.g., smartphone, laptop, digital camera), and you are ready to record
2. Incredibly small, and compact receiver, and lavalier microphones
3. Incredibly small ‘Hard’ case (8 x 12.3 x 3.8 cm) easily accommodates microphones and receiver
4. Good range - I went into a room 30 feet away from where I was recording, with a couple of walls in between me and the receiver, and the Tearstone maintained the recording signal - it was stable
5. The Tearstone records in .M4A format - a common audio format (at 48kHz /16bit)
CONS - WHAT I DID NOT LIKE
1. The Tearstone Wireless Lavalier Microphone did not do very well in my tests recording onto my Mobile Phone, Laptop, and Digital Camera
Specifically, the sound was ‘boxy’, and ‘nasally’, and compressed- actually difficult to listen to
I put this down to what is described as the “professional-grade intelligent noise cancellation chip, which can effectively recognize the original sound and record clearly in noisy environments” being neither professional-grade, nor intelligent, or noise-cancelling
2. Any movement when I was recording, was translated into was translated into an obtrusive, unpleasant sound artefact - in my opinion, this was another example of the inefficiency of the noise cancellation chip
3. I emulated the sound of wind noise by having a fan (at various speeds) blowing straight on to the foam wind shield from about 18 inches away - even on a very mild setting, and the wind screen was ineffective at reducing any of the wind noise
4. Only 1 USB A to USB C included in pack - you need 3 (or a USB A split to 2 x USB C, or vice versa)

My favourite thing about this specific microphone compared to the rest in the market is that it comes with three kinds of adapters!! This makes it so versatile to record videos with your laptop or whatever generation of iPhone you might have. You also get two mic’s with clips on them so you really get the value with the price you pay!! My second favourite thing has to be the cute little zipper leather case it comes in. I have to admit I lose things fast so having the little case helps me keep them together. The sound quality on these is amazing it’s a content or video creators dream and I love the versatility with this so you can use it was various devices!
