Great camera, no membership required
The photo you see is from the Tapo app, taken at night, during a fairly heavy snowstorm in Quebec Canada ey! The camera is setup in the bedroom, so picture is seen through a window, not bad ey! I also own an Ezviz indoor camera(CN6060 I believe) setup through a window also, but the light on the camera reflects in the window so I can't see anything at night.Tapo says night vision extends to 30 ft, but as you can see, houses on the other side of the street are at least 75 feet away and you can still see them, although I am sure streetlights help a lot. Night detection is 30 feet, maybe more. I set up the camera to detect persons only, and it works fine as long as persons step on my property. It does detect some persons on the street, if they walk on my side of the street.Audio is decent too, have not really used it, but did hear my wife that was standing at least 15 feet away from the camera. She made me turn audio off, camera is in the bedroom after all! :- ISetup is very easy, done in 10-15 minutes on both iPad and iPhone. This thing is so light, I taped it to the top of the window, upside down, adjusted the angle, reversed the picture in the app and I was done. You can view the camera feed on a computer through VLC media player (VideoLan, it's free to download). You need to setup a separate, free Tapo account account for this, I have read somewhere in the Tapo help that you can do everything with one account, but it did not work for me. Doc should be made clearer about this. After 3 days, the feed does not show on VLC anymore (still works fine on iPhone and iPad), but I will reboot eventually and it will probably work again. I need to input username and password in VLC everytime I want to see the feed, maybe I will dive into the VLC help and automate this.I have bought a micro SD card (128Gb max for this model) and will install it soon. Doc says that if you put in a card, the feed to external device (VLC in this case) will not work. I hope this is not the case, will see.Best part is that no membership is required. You get a 30-day free trial, but external feed will not work with membership or free trial, so I cancelled it before trying it out, so I can`t comment on membership. There is a 2K and maybe even 4K model of this camera, but since I own over 20 smart devices, my Wifi is not as fast as it used to be, Full HD is enough for now. This is a great camera, even more so if you're new to smart devices. I will probably buy a few more soon, especially if it stays or goes on sale again. ''Alexa, show me camera two''!Update Jan 23rd: Viewing the camera stream through VLC Media player stopped working after 2-3 days, VLC cannot connect to the camera. I setup Agent DVR free software instead and it works OK, but the picture is a bit grainy, but it does record detected persons automatically.Update Jan 28 2024: I have seen a review that says you have to pay the subscription fee for motion detection to work, this is not true. Motion detection (I set it to person detection only) works fine, I get a notification on my phone (see photo in french cause my iPhone is set to french) when a person is detected.

Get ready to roll on the floor laughing while your home security reaches new heights with the TP-Link Tapo Smart Home Security WiFi Camera! This camera is not just about serious business; it's about having a hilarious time while protecting your castle.

From the moment I unboxed this compact and snazzy camera, I couldn't help but chuckle at its charming design. It's like a secret agent disguised as a minimalist gadget, ready to catch any shenanigans happening in your living space.

Setting up this camera was a breeze—no need to hire a team of tech gurus. Even a self-proclaimed "tech-challenged" person like me managed to get it up and running in a jiffy. The Tapo Smart Home Security WiFi Camera proved that technology and laughter can coexist harmoniously.

Now, let's talk about its detective skills. This camera has the visual acuity of Sherlock Holmes combined with the reflexes of a ninja. It captures every moment with crystal-clear precision, so you won't miss a single hilarious antic your pets or family members might engage in. I've had endless hours of entertainment watching my furry friends engaging in epic dance-offs and my clumsy uncle attempting to master breakdancing moves.

But wait, there's more! The Tapo Smart Home Security WiFi Camera has a playful side too. Its motion detection technology is so clever, it knows how to tell the difference between a mischievous squirrel and a genuine threat. No false alarms here! You'll only get notifications when something worth laughing or worrying about happens.

The fun doesn't stop there. With its integration into your smart home ecosystem, you become the master of pranks. Imagine remotely talking through the camera to startle your unsuspecting family members or pets. It's like having a secret weapon of hilarity in your hands.

Even in the darkest hours, this camera shines brighter than a comedy club spotlight. Its night vision capabilities illuminate the scene, giving you a front-row seat to the comical adventures unfolding in your home after sunset. Who knew your pet's late-night snack raids could be so entertaining?

And don't fret about your privacy; TP-Link takes it seriously. The Tapo Smart Home Security WiFi Camera guards your data like a comedic bodyguard, ensuring it stays confidential and secure. It's like having your very own security detail for both your home and your sensitive information.

If you're looking for a home security solution that combines protection and laughter, look no further than the TP-Link Tapo Smart Home Security WiFi Camera. I had an indoor tapo camera so when when looking for an exterior camera I liked the idea of keeping it all in the same app. These were a fair price and actually had an Amazon sale on them. They were tricky to get set up and took quite a bit of trouble shooting but once they were up they are working great. The image is really clear and you can generally hear what’s happening. It seems that the battery is going down about a 2% a week so far.

Things I don’t like:
-the camera at the front of my house keeps notifying me every half hour or so that my stationary car is in the driveway, I want to keep the cameras on when I’m home but the notifications are annoying since there isn’t actually anything happening.
-the camera are a few seconds delayed so once I get the notification someone is already turned around and leaving, not a big deal just something I’ve noticed
- when using the talk function on the camera you cannot hear any audio while you speak, and since their is a delay it makes it very difficult to talk to anyone through it.

All in all I think these are good cameras and I will probably be buying more tapo products. The app is easy to use and so far the products are working well.

The C420 system is incredibly easy to use. Once the H200 hub was connected to the router the setup was very straightforward and connecting to my account and the tapo app took only a couple of minutes. I've been told by support that they are adding wifi support to the hub, but for now it requires ethernet. This was not personally a big issue as my router is central in my home and had extra ethernet ports, but if someone does not have an extra port this could be a hurdle requiring extra hardware. The cameras themselves were equally easy to set up. I did initially put the batteries in backwards and spent a minute or so wondering why the light was not flashing like the app said it should be, but that was user error. The batteries charged relatively quickly, about an hour each, and seem to be holding a good charge. In the 2 weeks since I've turned the cameras on they've only dropped about 1%, though I am not actively using all of the detection features.

Access through the app is easy and connecting to the cameras seems to be just as fast on any fast wifi network as on the same network as the cameras. The signal latency is also quite good. I found the picture is only about a second delayed from real time. The detection settings work well and the detection zone drawing tool and privacy zone tools provide a good level of control. The AI detection did notify me when it saw a car in my driveway. Picture quality is very good in the daytime. The image is very clear and detailed.

Picture quality at night was very impressive. With some light in the scene, I did not need to have night mode enabled to see clearly. Multiple times when checking the camera at night I thought the picture was frozen because of how bright it was. It was not frozen.

The range of the wireless cameras is strong. With the hub in a central location in my home, both cameras could be placed anywhere without signal loss. For an average sized home, I don't think there would be any issue regarding placement.

The media from the camera saves to either the internal storage or Tapo Cloud. There is no FTP or ONVIF support.

Overall, for where this camera is priced, I think it is a good value and would recommend it to someone looking to add some easy and basic cameras to their home.
