Tapo says night vision extends to 30 ft, but as you can see, houses on the other side of the street are at least 75 feet away and you can still see them, although I am sure streetlights help a lot. Night detection is 30 feet, maybe more. I set up the camera to detect persons only, and it works fine as long as persons step on my property. It does detect some persons on the street, if they walk on my side of the street.
Audio is decent too, have not really used it, but did hear my wife that was standing at least 15 feet away from the camera. She made me turn audio off, camera is in the bedroom after all! :- I
Setup is very easy, done in 10-15 minutes on both iPad and iPhone. This thing is so light, I taped it to the top of the window, upside down, adjusted the angle, reversed the picture in the app and I was done.
You can view the camera feed on a computer through VLC media player (VideoLan, it's free to download). You need to setup a separate, free Tapo account account for this, I have read somewhere in the Tapo help that you can do everything with one account, but it did not work for me. Doc should be made clearer about this. After 3 days, the feed does not show on VLC anymore (still works fine on iPhone and iPad), but I will reboot eventually and it will probably work again. I need to input username and password in VLC everytime I want to see the feed, maybe I will dive into the VLC help and automate this.
I have bought a micro SD card (128Gb max for this model) and will install it soon. Doc says that if you put in a card, the feed to external device (VLC in this case) will not work. I hope this is not the case, will see.
Best part is that no membership is required. You get a 30-day free trial, but external feed will not work with membership or free trial, so I cancelled it before trying it out, so I can`t comment on membership.
There is a 2K and maybe even 4K model of this camera, but since I own over 20 smart devices, my Wifi is not as fast as it used to be, Full HD is enough for now.
This is a great camera, even more so if you're new to smart devices. I will probably buy a few more soon, especially if it stays or goes on sale again. ''Alexa, show me camera two''!
Update Jan 23rd: Viewing the camera stream through VLC Media player stopped working after 2-3 days, VLC cannot connect to the camera. I setup Agent DVR free software instead and it works OK, but the picture is a bit grainy, but it does record detected persons automatically.
Update Jan 28 2024: I have seen a review that says you have to pay the subscription fee for motion detection to work, this is not true. Motion detection (I set it to person detection only) works fine, I get a notification on my phone (see photo in french cause my iPhone is set to french) when a person is detected.

Let's start with PROS.
-very quick/simple set up
-micro SD card option (you need to buy)
-Clear day photos
-HD or SD option
-Privacy On/Off function (if you want to turn off without unplugging camera)
-Talk - is clear, not muffled unless right in front of it (was testing it)
-Alarm - cool option, but be prepared to jump. Cross between fog horn/Purge signal
-Status LED light can be turned off, so depending where you put it, no one can see the light
-Onscreen display. - can have the "time", "logo", "live (shows it's recording)
-things stored in Memory can be easily shared
-zoom in works well (loses quality)
-"wide view" - see pics in front living room window
-no glare through a window - see photos. Make sure to clean your window first.
-easy to install app/sign up account
CONS
-the "cool" features are not free.
-AI Detection, Rich Notification, Privacy Zones, Motion Tracking & cloud storage require subscription
-Prices for subscription (Cdn- $43.99/year - $4.39/month)
-cannot change the motion sensitivity (EVERYTHING is picked up, but that could be a good thing)
-NO instructions. Two "booklets" come with it, but neither tell you what to do with settings on the app.
-In the "Memory", only the screen shots or videos you manually took show up there. The "alerts" do not. You have to find those in Playback mode and basically scroll through to find them
-figuring out how to switch from "day", "night" "auto' required googling to figure out how to turn off night mode, so glare in window was off.
-no easy way to "mute" audio. If you have it inside, it literally picks up every single sound (tv, pets, people)
Overall, I have to say this is a great camera for what I need it for. It works great, the motion pickup is amazing, and you get the notification quickly. It is on Wifi, so expect a tiny bit of delay, but since this is a backup camera, I'm not concerned.
Definitely for the price, is worth it.

You can easily view the live feed or playback recordings using voice commands. Overall, the Tapo TP-Link Smart Video Doorbell Camera is a reliable and feature-packed device that enhances your home security.
The cameras were easy to install. I reused the 1/4-20 mount from the broken camera and it screwed right in the back end of the camera. The new camera I used the magnetic mount. I’m usually nervous about any outdoor mount that isn’t rock solid. But, these magnets are some sort of rare earth and they create a very solid mount for the camera. The camera come with a warning about how strong the magnets are and to keep your fingers out of pinch points.
Setup was easy using the iOS Tapo app.
The image quality is excellent. Also the low light color sensors give great color images at night if there is any light at all and the usual IR monochrome otherwise.
Motion detection zones have always been hit and miss in my experience. These cameras break that rule. First there are 4 different detection types (Motion, Person, Pet, Vehicle) that can be turned on or off individually and used together. Second, The zone boundaries in most cameras I’ve used give you one zone, usually a box you can change the size of. The zones in these camera are described by 4 points. You can move the points to make any 4 sided shape. But wait! You can add additional 4 sided shaped zones. I’ve got one with 4 zones. My camera in the front yard needs to keep the street out of the detection zone but cover all the little nooks and crannies. It’s an impossible shape to describe with only 4 points. With these cameras the 16 points I used cover the area completely and eliminate false triggers. And, you can either have all your detector types share a common zone set or have separate zone sets per type (Per, Person, vehicle, and Motion)
I liked the first two so much, I bought 3 more to replace the rest of my cameras.
I hate climbing up to replace batteries. They always go dead in the rain and cold. I have solar panels on 3 of the cameras and 2 of the cameras are plugged into outdoor lighting using the supplied charging cubes in light housings where they are nice and dry. The result is that for at least part of every day the cameras get some charge. Low batteries are never a problem.
I did buy an annual subscription to Tapo Care. These come with a 30 trial subscription and that got us hooked. At least the purchased subscription is added onto the end of the trial.
