Sony ZV - 1 Camera for Content Creators and Vloggers creators to love

1

For Content Creators & Vloggers

A pocket-sized camera with uncompromising imaging technology and unique features for content creators and vloggers that lets the subject shine in any scene

No experience is necessary to capture great looking videos. The ZV-1 is designed to capture amazing videos of you and your world, without any tricky setup.

Beautiful and natural skin tones for everyone

The ZV-1 makes all skin colours look vibrant, natural and healthy. There’s also an optional Soft Skin Effect mode for a smoother look.

Pro-quality bokeh control with one touch

By just pushing the Bokeh switch, you can switch background bokeh on and off — no need for complex manual adjustments. Now it’s easy to simply select a professional-looking defocused background, or keep the entire scene in focus, with just the press of a button.

Let the camera catch your eye

With AI technology you can rely on the auto focus sticking firmly to your face and eyes without wandering to other subjects. When you want to focus on another subject, just touch it on the screen and let the camera do the focusing.

Product Showcase Setting, ideal for product review videos

Product Showcase Setting allows you to switch with just a single button press to settings that are perfect for product reviews. It widens the angle of view and switches the focus to the object instantly, so you don’t need to wait for the focus to shift, or place your hand behind the product to shift the focus to it.

Shoot great video, wherever you go

The ZV-1 is built to get great shots while you’re moving. With amazing image stabilization, you can shoot smooth video when walking and, as the light goes from shadow to sun or outdoors to in, the automatic exposure (AE) tracks faces and makes sure they always appear well-lit.

Designed for even better audio

You can capture clear vocals even when shooting in a crowd. The camera’s unique directional three-capsule mic gathers clear sound from in front of the camera, ideal for movie shooting.

Wind screen for outdoor shooting

The supplied wind screen reduces wind noise for outdoor shooting. As well as achieving premium sound quality, that also means you’ll spend less time re-shooting and editing footage affected by wind noise.

Use your favourite mic for the sound you want

With a microphone jack and MI shoe, you can pick from your choice of mics to get exactly the sound you want.

Dynamic video through slow motion

Make every movement more cinematic with Super Slow Motion video, capturing the most fleeting of moments for playback at up to 40x slower than real time.

Time-lapse for that cinematic effect

Interval shooting mode automatically captures sequences of images from 1–60 seconds apart, which can be used to create cinematic time-lapse videos on a PC, where clouds flow past like water and whole days pass in seconds.

Take amazing pictures as well as video

The ZV-1 has everything you need to capture images that really shine in your timeline and video thumbnails. The pin-sharp ZEISS 24–70 mm lens focuses light to a large 1.0-type Exmor R CMOS image sensor, with it all coming together in the powerful BIONZ image processor.

Express yourself with creative effects

Picture Effects and Creative Styles allow for near-limitless visual possibilities — from simple monochrome and partial colour effects, right through to complex miniature effects.

1

Shoot then share easily

There’s no longer a need to compromise your images with your smartphone camera just to share content quickly. The ZV-1 delivers both stunning images and seamless connectivity, for better and easier posting.

Built to vlog

The ZV-1 design makes creating outstanding selfie and vlog content easy. Right down to the last detail, the ZV-1 is all about empowering you to make inspirational content.

Maybe the sensor tech is better on MARKII but i have to say, Just look at my picture comparison. The picture is between RAW iso12800 with NO processing, versus Lightroom denoise at 40%. This camera is now my daily driver for youtube and family videos. Sony has left no stone unturned when it comes to the video quality of this camera. Yes it is my first mini DSLR-ish camera and I love its easy of being able to slide into my pocket. The still images may not be as superb as high-end iPhones with multiple lenses, but Videos is where this camera outshines any and every phone on this planet.
Easily links up to my existing equipment and delivers superb results when on low budget and being highly motile.

If you keep in mind the limitations of this little beast, you should be amazed. I bought this as an EDC and possible c-cam to my a74 cams. Autofocus is lighting fast, colours and dynamic range look amazing. Image IQ at high ISO is not great, but it is a one inch sensor point and shoot. Super happy with this. So small, light and agile.

I followed the Sony ZV-1 trend and bought it as a daily portable camera.

Overall, the footage is really good, and easy to carry (can fit into your pocket).

It's better than my iPhone 13, and 14 Pro Max (footage quality), it has built-in Beauty Effect, and you can set it to LOW and get a great "filtered" look.

HOWEVER...

THE HEATING ISSUE drove me a bit crazy.

I don't know how people can say this camera can record up to 30-40m on 4k.

My max recording time on 4k 24p & 30p is around 10-12m before the camera shuts off due to high temperature.

I've done so much research, I set the camera temperature setting to HIGH and switched from 30p to 24p, but still didn't work.

People mentioned you can buy a separate cage + build a fan on it to prevent overheating issues. (I mean, that defeat the purpose of the portability, doesn't it?)

I don't know why in this modern age, Sony still can't solve their camera overheating problem (for over a decade).

If you don't want to face the overheating issue, I recommend recording only with 1080p.

Also, Keep in mind it does have a "crop" factor, especially with SteadyShot activated.

I've been live streaming with a Canon SL2 for the last couple of years, but after moving from a white studio to a matte black studio I wanted to upgrade to a camera with "better" low light performance. After watching hours of YouTube reviews, I plumped for the ZV1.

I'll preface what's about to come by saying that I know my way around a camera. I'm no David Bailey, but I can adjust settings to get the image I want/need pretty well.

After waiting a couple of weeks for the ZV1 to be shipped, I was excited when it finally arrived. That excitement wore off within an hour, and the Sony is now back in its box and ready to be returned. Here's why.

1) The small sensor doesn't cope well with fine patterns and creates HORRIBLE moire. The larger APS-C sensor on the Canon copes far better (there's still some moire, but it's a lot less noticeable)
2) The ZV1 registered insane amounts of flicker from my background lights - again, the Canon has no problems with them.
3) The zoom on the Sony SUCKS. On most cameras, you can get exactly the zoom you want by rotating a ring. On the ZV1 you only get a rocker button with a severe delay. So, by the time it realizes you've stopped zooming, it's already gone way past the focal length you wanted. You're then into a game of cat and mouse, tapping the rocker one way, then back the other, and so on until you get somewhere near the zoom you were trying to achieve.
4) The f1.8 lens's low light performance isn't noticeably better than my Canon's f4 kit lens. Even the Bokeh effect is pretty much indistinguishable

So, back to the drawing board. I'll look at the A6100/A6400 again, or maybe stick with Canon and just go to the SL3.

I am absolutely in love with my Sony ZV-1 Digital Camera! As a content creator and vlogger, this camera has become an indispensable tool for capturing high-quality videos and photos. The image and video quality is outstanding, with crisp details and vibrant colors that make my content pop.

One of the standout features of this camera is the flip screen, which makes it incredibly easy to frame shots and capture perfect selfies or vlog footage. The touchscreen display is intuitive and responsive, adding to the overall user experience.

I also appreciate the built-in microphone, which delivers clear and crisp audio, eliminating the need for external microphones in most situations. The defocus setting is another favorite of mine, allowing me to achieve beautiful background blur and professional-looking shots effortlessly.

My only minor gripe is that it would have been nice if the camera came with a battery charger instead of just a USB cable for charging. However, this is a small inconvenience compared to the overall quality and performance of the camera.

In summary, the Sony ZV-1 Digital Camera is a game-changer for content creators, vloggers, and YouTubers. It delivers exceptional quality, ease of use, and versatility, making it a must-have tool for anyone serious about creating top-notch content. Highly recommended!

My biggest complaint with the Sony ZV-1 is battery life. I wish they had used the same battery as the Alpha a6000 series cameras. Besides that gripe though, paired with the vlogging kit, this is quite a powerhouse vlogging camera especially if you don’t want to spend the money required for the Sony A7c. I love its portability, it can even fit in my pocket without the tripod/grip attached, let me say that again 4K video recording that fits in your pocket. The fact that Sony was able to build eye-tracking into such a small package is astounding and you still get the same amazing Sony picture quality, no wonder everyone uses Sony sensors. The portability and flip around screen make this camera perfect for vloggers, allowing you to easily see what the camera sees, whether shooting solo or with help. The microphone and windscreen do an adequate job of keeping wind noise down when you’re moving, but I wouldn’t trust it in very windy conditions. The product showcase setting is perfect for smaller e-commerce setups, making this an ideal unboxing or review camera when space is a concern. I haven’t tried the Bokeh setting, but there is a bokeh setting meaning you don’t need to spend a lot on an expensive lens to achieve similar results for the platforms that interest you unless of course, you want to. The ZV-1 like other Sony cameras can also be used as a webcam, and because of its size it is very well suited for this purpose, just download the software, plug in the USB change a couple of settings and you’re good to go. The bundled shooting grip pairs easily and provides an easy to control the camera when you’re creating content solo. All in all, this is content creators' dream camera, easy portability, outstanding picture quality, 4K shooting, webcam functionality, and the Sony ecosystem of camera tech. I’m definitely sold. I was able to purchase this camera at a discount in exchange for my honest review.
