This dog ramp model is one of the best on the market. It unfolds telescopically, is light and relatively stable. It folds easily for storage. Note: Most dogs don't like to use it. You have to teach him this trick. It's best to start by placing the ramp horizontally on the lawn, and then raise it a step at each stage of learning. My 13-year-old Border Collie mastered the ability to go up and down a ramp within three days.

I gave it 3 stars as it came in pretty rough shape even though it was advertised as used like new. The product itself is very solid and easy to store and use. I was able to walk up no problem. Unfortunately my dog was terrified of it and wouldn't use it so I sent it back with no issues.

After buying steps made to attach to the hitch, it was a waste of money. My 7yr old heavy American Bulldog hated it. She hated it so much that she jumped the side of the step and hurt her leg. Eveytime she went near it she trembled with fear, so it was time to look for an alternative.
After doing some research and looking at reviews on dog ramps, I was about to buy a different one, had my heart set on a different one UNTIL I read a review from someone that had this "Solvit", then had to replace it. Bought the one I was thinking at the beginning and said that he/she was regretting and didn't meet the standards of his/her big dog and was going to buy another "solvit".
Bought a "solvit" and it's AMAZING, I love it and so does my dog. After one day of training on the floor flat with treats, we move the it to the car the next day. The second day she's (dog) using the ramp by herself with happiness and confidence... of course I keep my hand on her collar at the top but she does the rest. As I'm mountin the ramp she already wants to use the ramp to get in the Car.
It's not heavy, easy to carry by the handle, it supports my 100lb dog and very sturdy. Some peoples concern is the slip pad and how it's so rough and scrapes the hands, I don't find it bad at all and I've grabbed it/ran my hand on it a bunch of times.

Works perfectly with my 2016 Ram 1500. I put it on the sidestep and it doesn't move at all. The resulting angle is not intimidating for either of my 2 boxers at all. I left it on the floor of my garage for a few days and trained them to sit & walk on it. When I finally set it up, I lured them up and down a few times with treats, but once they got used to it I just left the door open so they could go up and down on their own, which they did for hours. It is light and very sturdy! I did a lot of research and read reviews both on and off Amazon, I am extremely pleased with this purchase and wish I had done so a couple of years earlier but so glad I got it before they hurt themselves jumping in or out of the back seat. Highly recommended.

Really sturdy and made with Love and experience of owning a Dog. Even though it doesn't quite fit my Dodge Ram back door it will work even though we didn't buy the strap. The only thing wrong is the sticky sandpaper used for gripping. We took it off and lined with gripable mat. Thank You for giving me the Freedom of taking my Labrador with me, after having a Horrific accident at home and leaving me with 30% usage of my right leg. I never thought I'd have this freedom again. Thank You Hugs.

Light, easy to use because it can be quickly adjusted to fit any chair, bed, car, back of a truck. However, my dog has to use this all the time, and her feet are becoming irritated by the sandpaper. I am going to have to find some other material that doesn't slip to cover it with. Also, the hard plastic pieces on each side that the ramp slides through have both broken off with just normal use when the ramp was sliding through. The edges are as sharp as knives and I have cut my hands on them. Not as durable as I had hoped. Still using it - just wrapped the sharp edges with duct tape, but not ideal.

Worked well for our boy while he was here battling with cancer getting in and out vehicles, up/down stairs. Packs in the back of the car flat or propped up on side. Collapsible length nice feature for storage and ease of use. Only issue was the plastic handle broke first few month's of heavy use. Grip tape was of good quality on the ramp. Took a few tries to get used to at first but overtime was no issues going up and down ramp. Held our guy who was a solid 100lbs no issues. Would recommend.

This ramp is well made and sturdy. It is a bit heavy, but that is to be expected base on the quality of the sturdy material. I am a 70-year-old woman and I able to lift it (the handle helps) and slide it open with a little effort. The only downfall is the sandpaper-like covering on the surface where my dog walks. It was very thin and did not provide traction and was easily peeled off. I replaced it with a thin rubber matt with blunt nubs which I purchased at Walmart. I cut the pieces to size and secured them with Rogers Double Sided Carpet Seam Tape that I purchased at Home Depot. This surface is perfect. She does not slide and is able to grip when she needs to.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's good but the instructions/training tips are inadequate
Reviewed in the United States on October 25, 2019
Style: RampVerified Purchase
It is light, fairly wide and easy to use, I don't think you can easily hurt yourself opening/closing it like others (e.g. the WeatherTech folding ramp can pinch your fingers). When placed on the back of the SUV, it is sufficiently stable with reasonable incline even for old large Danes. It is surprisingly strong, more than sufficiently stable to carry my biggest dog's easily (165LB, more than I weigh). It's a well built ramp.

There have been comments that the sand paper like surface (100 grit?) is hard on the dog paws. I disagree, our old dogs have no problems. A dogs paws will be ok if the dog walks on the road fairly regularly and climbs the ramp at a normal pace. But in the worst case you can always get a set of booties. Also, the rough surface will not be rough forever.

The WeatherTech ramp has a rubber walking surface which is not as useful as one might think (very slippery if dogs paws are wet). Also the WeatherTech is more costly, narrower and bulkier to store (so harder to carry in vehicle which you obviously must do). I do not recommend the WeatherTech at all.

Training the dog to use it not to hard if (unlike the instruction booklet author) you use your brain a bit. First step is to get the dog to walk on it when it is flat on the floor. Next, since most houses are at least somewhat elevated from the property, use the ramp as a walkway from say an elevated porch to back yard or similar.

Prior to feeding the dog, put the dog outside, setup the ramp so that the dog can not avoid using it to get onto the porch and then put something tasty at the top of the ramp. The hungry dog will realize that it has to walk on the ramp to get the treat and will eventually do so (if there are two dogs then make it appear that the the second dog positioned on the porch might get the treat first).

We just left our ramp in place for a day so that the dogs got accustomed to traversing the incline. Once the dog is readily coming on or off the porch, then try putting it on the car. Again use a high value treat. It helps to have two people also.

Unless you have an very obedient and trusting dog, you will not likely get the dog to climb the ramp without some preconditioning/training. If you scare the dog on the first trial it may never try again. It may well take more than one day. But our big adolescent male Dane figured out and literally bounds up the ramp :).

Finally if you have a really wobbly old dog or one that doesn't walk precisely, this ramp is inexpensive enough that you can use two (at least at the back of an SUV) which definitely helps such dogs. Since they store easily, two is not too bad to carry.
