I've read all reviews about this mic and even after that was still leaning towards a Rode mic, but after careful consideration of its cost, I decised to give this SmallRig S20 mic a chance and ordered it. And, boy, how right were all thise people, who were saying that this mic is a great alternative to the Rode one. Not only it is a GREAT alternative, it is actually even better in my view since it comes with a second smaller mic that could be hung off your shirt collar. I have tested them both and concluded that it was a great product. Strongly recommend it to anyone.

This actually represents a good value for the money. The mike itself works pretty well considering the price point. I need to do more testing to compare to my other mikes but the initial testing I've done, shows that it is not too shabby :-) For something vlogging, it works very well. When pointing towards say for an interview, as long as you are within a few feet its fine. It has a few things that make a good value. The ability to go stereo by adding a second mike. A switch to go between mono and stereo. It comes with an extra lapel mike. There's a dead cat cover as well as a standard winsock. Sound quality/voice quality is not as good as my Rode (from Nikon's Creator kit) but right in there. I'm not disappointed with this unit in the least.

The included accessories are a bonus and this makes for an easy plug and play setup (at least for my uses) on my Canon R7. Much better than the stock microphone built into the camera.

 I was uncertain how this microphone would sound for the price, and I can honestly say I'm pleasantly surprised how almost on par it is to a more expensive one I used to own. I knew before purchasing it that it was not stereo unless you used the lav microphone, and this mic does not disappoint. I can't really give a technical critique of the sound, I just know it does what I need it to do. It's lightweight, small, and comes with a DeadCat - you have to purchase separate with other brands. I highly recommend purchasing this microphone if you are in the market for one, don't let the price throw you off, you are getting a quality product. I plan on purchasing another one to record stereo.

I put this up against a Rode VideoMicro. Tested on the same camera (Canon R5) with the same settings, compared in my audio software to listen for noise and compare frequency etc. This was on par with the Rode which is twice the price. Nice warmth to it, very low noise. Though the lav mic it comes with is junk. It is good that you can add a second mic and record in stereo (Smallrig on the right, external mic on the left). Personally, I would split these in to 2 mono tracks and eq/comp/level separately to get the best out of that setup.
