About Us

Sky-Watcher was launched in 1999 featuring a modest line of Newtonian and refractor style of optical tubes with limited distribution in Europe and Asia. Founder David Shen got his start in the telescope industry as a polishing technician and observed that the industry had a demand for more intuitive, user-friendly products. Product description

The Star Adventurer Latitude (EQ) Base provides a smooth and reliable way to polar align your mount. With internal gearing the Latitude Base makes aligning to the north celestial pole easy and repeatable. The Latitude Base features a V-style dovetail system and mounting block. The mounting block threads on the Star Adventurer and allows you to quickly mount or dismount your Star Adventurer to the Latitude Base. The Base also features latitude degree markers to easily adjust the Star Adventurer to the correct placement. Underneath the Base is a 3/8 thread which can mount to many of todays popular photo tripods.

For the price, it’s not bad. However, it does have a little bit of wobble in it. Furthermore, to use it with an ALT-AZ GTI, it should be known that the knob used for tightening it will not work as the device will get stuck on it so it’s worth it to buy a smaller replacement screw instead

I have mixed feelings about this EQ wedge. Whilst the build quality appeared good, the various set screws and adjusters are not the best quality. To reduce any slop, you have to almost over-tighten them, which will only introduce problems with further slop and accuracy down the line. I swapped the ones I was unhappy with for better quality fixings and am now happy. Took a few mins and well worth the effort.
